Well its pretty obvious he went back to Maranello since no source has seen him at the track since Massa, what would he be doing at the hotel? Eating?

Its pure speculation/rumour but its the only two places he should be at the testing or in Maranello slaving away!

It is going to take a while to get this car sorted. My guess is 3rd/4th race...

It doesn't help that Lotus seem really good as well. Grosjean says he has absolute confidence in the car especially in the high speed corners that even mistakes don't seem so scary.

Preseason tests mean close to nothing for performance. McLaren ran terribly in preseason last year, came out as a solid competitor to Red Bull.

Ferrari and even Mercedes looked fast in preseason, and did pretty bad for their standards.

The only reason Mclaren could recover from the last year preseason testing was because they have the EBD to copy, which itself is worth a few tenths.
It will be a lot harder to recover this season if you make a fundamental mistake with
the car design.

I know its still too early, but if Ferrari couldnt get settled in fast and put in all the miles it needs, they will most likely to start the season in the midfield.

I know this may not seem like a "technical post" but I'm getting there with this bit: (LOL) I do find it interesting how different camera perspectives can completely change the initial view you take on a part.

In particular on this eye sore of a Ferrari (nope, I'm still not used to its hideousness yet lol) - most recently it was the turning vanes on the sidepods, then before that there was the disappearing pull-rod, prior to that there was the semi-transparent engine cover...

...somebody posted earlier about the car having a high gloss paint scheme...I doubt it is an intentional ploy by the team to help hide technical developments or anything like that, but it might well be a point that the Scuderia Rosso paint colour is one that happens to trick the eyes a bit...

...either that or the photographers are bored and are currently having a good laugh at us all lol

I see no reason for Ferrari to improve on their dismal performance of the last three years. I think that Merc will be closer to them than they were last year. I would prefer Merc to overtake Ferrari.

Not exactly an Earth-shattering revelation. The sky is up; water is wet; and WB is at least partially ruled by a hatred for Ferrari.

Though, I must admit, I've talked myself into being at least a little concerned. The F2012 just has so much new stuff that it's going to be murder getting it all to work and then getting it all to work together.

and when was the last time you saw ferrari bodywork, or bodywork from any team for that matter, burn in a race? I can only recall reanualt last year and that was cause by engine issues.

all you ferrari fan boys can keep drinking the kool aid, but i'm concerned about this radical design based on what looks like some amateurish engineering. if this stuff isn't correct and elegant after a year of develpoment, i suspect the rest of the design:

-they should be very embarassed about the bodywork being burned up by the exhaust(on cold days in jerez to boot!) and the obvious hack job done to keep running. are you kidding me? with all their previous experience, they couldn't do a proper thermal analysis of this?

-and that junior high school blunt nose step is awful. they didn't even try some elegant shaping like lotus or something clever like red bull.

i suspect they will change these before the next test or the season opener, but this opening effort has me underwhelmed.

its actually not the floor that is burnt..its tire marbles falling off from the tire getting riped apart...

That's not entirely accurate. However, along those lines, last year's Mercedes regularly suffered burn damage to the bodywork around its engine and exhaust.
