That was a fun to watch race. Maldonado thoroughly deserved to win, if anything just for keeping Alonso at bay. Alonso drove the car higher up the order than he should have been able to, again. Being ahead of Red Bull, Mercedes, Lotus and McLaren is no small feat considering where Ferrari was in the first 4 races. Hamilton and Vettel both gave very good performances and salvaged precious points. Glad to see Vettel overtaking someone for a change!!! Kimi so close, hope the first win with Lotus is not too far away. Kobayashi kamikaze! =D>

As for the tires, I agree with others that pointed out that Pirelli only did what they were asked to do. Funny to hear Mr Schumacher moaning about how the tires only fit one or two teams that manage to find the sweet spot, when for years Bridgestones were designed to suit him personally!

The problem is not the tires so much as it is the stupid and unsporting rules the FIA has imposed concerning tire use. Two quick fixes is all that is needed:
1. Allow extra tires only for qualifying, so everybody will be free to push in Q3.
2. Remove the mandatory use of both sets of tires. There can only be one tire that is right for the car/circuit at any given time, so why should drivers be forced to race on the wrong tires even for a single lap is beyond me.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. H.P.Lovecraft

What happened there? Alonso's pitstop was fine. I know Maldonado pushed but 4,5 seconds per lap is very unrealistic... Has anyone else seen that?
alonso and marussia had .... moment
That cost him the victory then, quite simply..
I dont think so, maldo came out WAY ahead of fernando, ferrari just waited to long to pit him and pastor nailed a couple of laps on fresh tyres.

Yeah they're tied which means Vettel isn't leading and Alonso isn't 2nd. They're tied.
Agreed. Countback should only ever be considered if the season has ended. For all intents and purposes, I doubt they will have an identically symmetric run of results from here on - making any and all countbacks, at this time, rubbish.

However with the topsy turvy title hunt I'm considering doing up the 2012 title chase in 2009 points... see what would change... hmmm

Congrats to Williams on their win and a huge well done to Maldonado....Well my prediction of a SV win fell short but most enjoyed Sebs moves on Button and Hamilton and Rosberg, always good to see SV with great passing moves throughout the race proving that he has the skills when needed. Pity about the stop go penalty and the three pits stops which included a nose cone change as well. In the end three positions in a few laps was a superp effort.

Next in line was Hamilton for a great race from last to actually getting a point.

Button and Webber average.

Alonso superb race in a Ferrari that is no where near what it could be.

Kimi was just in a class of his own.

A member of the Williams team spoke to Sky immediately after and described an explosion, which reportedly came from the KERS unit on Bruno Senna's car.

"We were celebrating with Frank and suddenly there was a big explosion, a wall of warm air and everyone just ran."
