Please, please, please continue talking that charles is --- at this kind of conditions and that sainz is better
Sainz HAS been better recently in mixed conditions tbh. I'm saying this as a fan of Charles.
Leclerc started struggling in these conditions with the SF 23, especially early last year. He was strong before, especially in race trim.

He also confirmed that he is currently not at his best over one lap due to the car being inconsistent (probably more with his usual setups), something that we spoke about a few days ago.

Pretty nice call by the team, had the car at the perfect place on the perfect tires at the right time.
And Charles delivered.
Rare W for Ferrari strategy team

LEC isn’t interested is just normal quali, he wants to be on pole and he’s going to attempt that each time. Sometimes he crashes, most times he doesn’t.

He has done this with tractors from Ferrari and with good cars, he isn't like Sainz who prioritizes not taking risks. Saying LEC is washed in quali (out of all places) is really inaccurate.

A year and a half of poor performances is quite a lot.

Look at that, as soon as Ferrari solved their issues and stopped experimenting with Leclerc, they are competitive again

Can we have normal discussion back in this thread again, and leave the doom and gloom bullshlt out? Thanks

Too bad that Sainz had tyre issues in the last run, a double podium would have been on the cards tomorrow. Just hoping he and Piastri avoid each other in T1
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

He improved a lot through last season though, and today was strong as well.
I'm not counting Silverstone because he never tried the car before quali and race pretty much.

Leclerc to stay Sky Sport Italy: "there are reasons why i struggled in qualifying in the past few sessions. When you go from one extreme to the other over one session is really difficult to know where the limit of the car is"

Do we know the downforce level Ferrari had today in comparison of the others? From what i had read MCLaren opted for low downforce setup but i don't know what Ferrari did and the rest.
Whoever is in low downforce will be king tomorrow, even Williams lol

Top 3 teams are all equal low df, Mercedes has double deck beam wing and are suffering on straights a bit because of it
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Looking at the Q3 laps it seems DF levels are Checo>Ham>Max=Charles=Sainz>Rus>Pia. Norris' Quali times are bugged on F1 tempo but you'd assume similar to Piastri. They are all within 3-4 km/h, so differences are marginal, and deployment might be skewing the order.

It is a shame it was wet for FP3, so it is hard to know if overnight set-up changes have improved the race pace. Charles said post-quali Red Bull and Mcl are clear on race pace so P3-P5 is prob the best we can hope for tomorrow.

If Charles can clear S1 Lap 1 tomorrow in first, all to play for. Slight concern is Checo being over-eager for a good result and sending it on Charles (flashbacks to Mexico 23', Miami 24').

2 new hards, apparently. Fred seems reasonably bullish about tyre management:

Oh ok then.. so M-H-H it is ... the temps will be at 20c in the race as i see in weather predictions... i dont know if H will be better than M but the resurface of the track eats tyres.

Graining is gona be the bigger issue. If we had car from Australia we would be fine with graining, but this one has issues.
Max has bigger wing cause of graining

Leclerc has both, two new hards as well as two new mediums, but going by Vasseur's comments, M-H-H looks likely to be Ferrari's preferred choice indeed:

Norris had the option to keep the same selections as well, btw, but McLaren must have been afraid of the sun to pop up for quali.
