I'm a bit surprised why Ferrari are using Merc-style rims when they haven't really had trouble with the rear end of the car. They have rake and generally a really planted, glued rear-end so ... dunno.
Umm, didn't they have major issues with the thinner tread tires last year? Those are the tires we're using this year.

The Merc style rims are not there to influence how planted or glued the rear end is ..they are there to control rear tire temperatures. Those rims may come in handy for Ferrari at hot races so why not test it?

0This guy always talks sense regarding testing times.

(i'm aware there is only info regarding last year on here but hopefully he'll do a similar analysis this year)
This is the best F1 analysis I have ever read. Amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing.

I don't know what the fuel levels and sting lengths currently are, but Lewis is putting in faster times on C2s than Vettel is on C3s. ~0.3 to 0.7 faster, and Vettel's tires look a lot worse off.

I know - though tyre temps = whether your car will stick or slide, to put it in a simplistic manner. I'm just curious as despite the rake and pretty smooth suspension they're checking it out.

Vettel has been following Sainz for some time now! Don't know the fuel loads but Vettel pitted first! The Ferrari looked much more planted but still Vettel was unable to pass him even with using DRS while Sainz didn't!
Again I don't know fuel loads or what Vettel was trying to do there...maybe he didn't even want to pass him!

I think this is a good thing for team to get data from following someone with new regulations.
Especially for tyre degradation

There is certainly value in following a car in testing. Remind yourself of procession races.

Probably testing how the car is behind others.

The new aero rules didn't loop to help much. When he got close to Sainz exiting turn 15, the back end stepped out on him.

Anyone know where we can get all the lap times?

Why does it look like the Merc DRS flap opens slightly while driving over bumps?

It looks like it bounces 1-2mm every time the rear hits a bump/ kerb.

I expect this would make the rear end feel inconsistent, and not benefit performance at all...🤨

Probably testing how the car is behind others.
Or how the undercut will work with the new tires

Hamilton doing an interesting stint behind Kimi, in turbulence air. From my non expert and naive view, it seems to behave well and lap times didn't drop too much. Not that it means anything in testing but just saying.

Did you notice how the Merc rear wing was shaking and moving around alot, and I dont just mean when behind Kimi.
