Ferrari won't upgrade i hear until Spa/Monza as they have found that if they upgrade onto of the 30hp upgrade, they can add another 55hp to that figure. It may mean they have another 100hp for the end of the season, and building into 2016 they may build a nice little beast.

Mercedes are bringing an upgraded power unit i hear. All Mercedes powered cars will have an extra 30+ HP as all, barring HUL (ICE/TC/MGU-H/MGU-K/CE) & HAM (CE) are still on their first of any component part. This is ominous for the middle part of the season for the Mercedes powered drivers. It will bring Williams back into the hunt, be good timing for Lotus and Force India and possibly worry Toro Rosso/Red Bull/Renault.

Well they've both said they are not going to use tokens, so it must be from reliability if there are going to be upgrades. I doubt they're going to find 30HP from this, what's the source for this?

If it's purely from reliability work, then it's not worth 30hp. The rules for an upgrade being considered a "reliability" upgrade explicitly state that the part change must not change the power output of the engine.

Say an engine can produce 800Hp. But there is a seal which does not survive four races if you run the engine that hard. In order to make the engine last that long the engine has to be detuned to 770Hp.

Then you can say that changing get that seal design is a reliability upgrade which effectively unlocks 30 Hp.

Most likely IMO. They will run the engines ragged on test beds and just push them so hard to find out what the max kind of HP output they can get say, for a race weekend, then use that as a benchmark. That way they can produce reliability improvements and unlock more power from the engine.

Or at least, it seems like the sort of grey area thing that teams would do.

So the Hulk and Ham are still getting the engine upgrade?

Most likely Ham will (who is only down a CE, which is generally a very reliable part), but Hulk won't (as it will put him significantly out on the number of engines). I'd expect Hulk to get his for Silverstone.

I think they'll qualify roughly a second faster than last year. Race pace I think they'll be roughly the same as last year except for lotus and Ferrari about .7 seconds faster than last year. Everyone else will be a little faster, this track has a lot of time spent at full throttle so the lap isn't exactly fuel efficient, so I don't think anyone can afford to go much faster than last year.

I'm going to be at the race, got hair pin seats this year.

Fingers crossed that you get good weather guys, Montreal is a great city and race weekend is a huge party

I only (always) mention FP1, because participating in Montreal's night life has the power to alter the next days events
As for your seats the lower right side of that grandstand is a good spot,for photos, the safety fence is not in the way,
the left side is tough as the cars enter your view, going 190mph, But as for just watching the race, great spot you'll see every thing

that shot makes me remember kubica's horrific accident. have they ever improved the safety regarding the wall there after the kubica incident?

yup they just stretched the wall close to circuit. This is from 2012

I'm pretty sure we are on the lower right side, so it sounds like my buddy did a good job picking seats!
