Jenson Button has masterfully driven to his first win of the year, his first for McLaren. In the early stages he switched tyres at the right time while he succesfully nursed his option tyres to the end of the race. Robert Kubica is a happy second for Renault, followed by Felipe Massa.
Button was faster this time but times will probably fall in FP2. The Ferraris were heavy. Michael was 1.4 s behind Rosberg and appeared to be unhappy.

It's only FP1, but considering how much tougher overtaking has become, I'm sure everyone's desperate to find a good qualy setup ASAP.
Surprise P1 from Kube, with Petrov's P9 also suggesting that Renault may indeed be up for better results on this track. Small victories for Button and Massa as they topped their respective teammates. Buemi likewise for topping both Force Indias. But a solid showing so far from Di Resta who's subbing for Sutil in FP1. Homeboy Webber gave the locals little to cheer for though, as he's 1-sec adrift of Vettel.
The Merc (in Rosberg's hands) seems to have pace and goes well enough around Albert Park... except Schumacher's. His growing frustration & impatience showed when he didn't back off on a red flag. Looks like it's going to be another difficult weekend for Michael, with still no light at the end of the tunnel.

Marc Surer talked to Sauber and found out that they did not replace the vertical struts between the nose and the front wing. They only replaced the wing. The struts broke at the damaged connection to the nose when Kobayashi took the car out again with the same nose.
Sutil comes out with intermediates to scrub the tyres in.

Seriously try to shoot a few things if you're allowed to...
haha one of the first things i asked actually, and they said specifically, not once you're in the actual pitbox. they didn't want pics of the diffuser.
that didn't stop me taking pics & uploading to Twitter tho!
Got to stand next to Webber's dad, see Vettel's car being worked on, Webber come back in from his recon lap, hear Webber talk about his lap (including complaining of the fire extinguisher leaking in Vettel's car being fired up, had to step aside for Webber's personal trainer (he's a big bloke!) and then caught Vettel's eye on the way out.. i smiled, but his look was more of 'how the hell did u get in here, please don't hurt me!'
Was an absolutely amazing experience!
The rest of FP1 was great too.. i'll post up my photos later on.. back at work now..

Renault engines are the loudest, in a deep kinda way. Really get in your head! The Red Bull is definitely louder than the Renault tho.
The Cosworths are the most grumbly-sounding engine, real throaty.
Mercedes is just high pitched whiney.. really rips at your ears! The factory team hurts a little more than McLaren, Force India is almost soothing in comparison!
The Ferrari is a mix in sound of the Merc & Renault engines, high pitched initially, but deep once past you.
There's a noticeable difference in braking stability and timing between the top teams and the new teams into Turn 1. HRT is releasing their throttle just before the 100m marker, braking almost straight away after. Merc & McLaren, even FI are releasing throttle about at about 90m, hitting the brakes at about 85 or 80m.
Red Bull by far the most stable out of Turn 2. HRT looked wobbly, Petrov had a few big moments there too.

Schumacher has no timed lap half an hour into FP2. He is obviously unhappy with the car. It is time to decide for a setup and get on with the program. Edit: There seems to be an engine mapping problem.
Chandhok stops in the pit exit. Only the stewards can authorize the removal of the car. Edit: It is pushed away.

I could hear it on the pit limiter, car was jittering in the pit stop lane too.
