Fernando Alonso has won the German GP but only thanks to Felipe Massa. The Brazilian took the lead at the start and remained at the front until Massa as asked to let the Spaniard through because he was faster. Sebastian Vettel completes the podium in third.
Mercedes are in a position where any decision they make really is win/win.
They can make the decisions and learn from it as they go. Renault will probably be buzzing around just behind or even just ahead.
Im basing this on on two things, firstly I think the supersoft already means Mercedes is in trouble. Secondly the tempratures that are being predicted are going to cause further headache, under 22 degrees allegedly.
Mercedes cannot get their supersofts operating, especially in cooler weather.
The informed fan knows this, as will Mercedes. So they can experiment IMO.
They dont have much to lose...
Now thats not to say this weekend is a write-off, because IF it rains come race day, Mercedes will not need to use the supersoft, and its tyre and aero issues will be less pronounced in wet conditions.
This is also not taking into consideration that Mercedes have improved their F-duct and Blown diffuser. The F-duct in particular appears to be working much better for them, but still needs more improvement.
If Mercedes score 6th and 7th in a dry race this weekend, they should be happy.

friday evening 85%rain chance .saturday morning as well ..no rain on sunday.
so we might see a very green track come Q..? But lowish temps as well..How many laps needed to bring the primes into their operation window?
Depends on the temperature, but if it's not hot on race day, then I'm guessing you can get about 13 laps out of the options. That is, if you run at about 95%, maybe 35 laps from the primes, 30 if you go @ 100%. If this is the case then most teams will have to stop 2-3 times.
so finally Friday looks to be dry 18-24°C,cloudy,Friday night till Saturday is 70%rainrisk till noon,15-22°C remains cloudy, and finally sunday 22°C and cloudy..
so apart from the downpour saturday morning we migh see quite constant temps and no bright sunshine..equaly low track temps and only rubber laid down on sunday....
