Less downforce equals more sliding and wheelspin.
And that helps to eat tyres a lot faster.
More wheelspin could be due to poor driveability of the engine. Whatever the cause - low DF, poor driveability or suspension setup, they need to quickly find a solutionTauri_J wrote:Less downforce equals more sliding and wheelspin.

Button retired. How can you say he is up to speed with Button? Button had the pace in practice. He lost out due to silly qualifying format, and he was ahead in the race before he retired...Gothrek wrote:1. I think there's speed in the car, they just need a clean weekend to make the most out of it.Thunders wrote:Great Drive by Vandoorne, showing he really deserves a McLaren Seat next Year. Reliability still not completely figured out sadly. I hope it's something easy to fix in the Future.
2. He scored the first point for McLaren this season
3. Very good and mature overtakes
Remember he has never had a F1 raceweekend before and he is up to speed with Button.
i agree to it partially. my guess is that power is up there but chasis is not that good. yesterday after 1st stop verstappen and vandoorne both went on super soft and vandoorne was just behind him. i hoped that we will see a fight between twodamager21 wrote:McLaren with those rear wings and setup is clearly masking Honda's speed deficit and that is eating up tires more quickly than they would like. There is a need to find at least 0.5 sec to fight Williams and Torro Rosso. I am not sure if the upgrades McLaren brought here really worked or not. I believe Spain is where we may see some real upgrades.
Also, Jenson's retirement due to ERS is not good news for Honda. We all thought the engine is at least reliable, doesn't look like. Will be interesting to see if they change MGU-H or MGU-K for next race.

It´s the other way around, more downforce means more grip, so you´re not pushing your tires as hardTheGkbrk wrote:Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know eating tyres quicker would mean more downforcedamager21 wrote:McLaren with those rear wings and setup is clearly masking Honda's speed deficit and that is eating up tires more quickly than they would like. I'm not certain that's strictly true with pirelli f1 tires... They're designed to degrade thermally as opposed to through carcass wear. If your car produces more downforce, you will indeed produce less carcass wear, but you may put more heat into the tire. Too much and they're wrecked. I believe this plagued rbr one year... Sorry for the OT.Andres125sx wrote:It´s the other way around, more downforce means more grip, so you´re not pushing your tires as hardTheGkbrk wrote:Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know eating tyres quicker would mean more downforcedamager21 wrote:McLaren with those rear wings and setup is clearly masking Honda's speed deficit and that is eating up tires more quickly than they would like. With less downforce (to reduce drag and mask PU deficit) grip decreases, so car slide a lot more, increasing tire wear
