Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Mercedes certainly did not. RBR may have run with it on the beam wing, but no body knows.

RBR is really good at hiding such things. Last year they were able to run DDRS a full race weekend, and testing it at the free practices the race before, without anybody noticing it. If it odes get clear they are running at some point during season, you can count that they used 2 or 3 races before.

What makes you think RBR ran their DRD?

They didn't run with anything attached to their rear wing main plate at Oz.
It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

I do not see why RBR has abandoned the idea in 2013 (same for Mercedes).

That is DDRS. That is not the topic. The acutal topic is the DRD.
DDRS is double DRS which is operated by driver.
DRD is Drag Reduction Device, and it is not operated by driver. It is passive DDRS.

Red Bull DID NOT run DRD last year.
Fernando Alonso is the best pay-to-drive driver in F1 with the biggest amount of money behind him.

That works on complately diffrent principle that Lotus DRD that RBR also copied, if you remember RBR running with vertical pipe under the rear wing at winter tests.

i think they have not run it in test yet - the central pillar we saw was something different (used in winter befroe 2012 alreadY). But I may be wrong, we will wait and see

RBR is suspected to have two DRD, a rear wing staller and a beam wing staller.

@shelly

3rd winter test, morning of 1st March:

That's the DRD device. Not last year's DDRS blowing the beam wing

Not so much suspected as they do have one stalling the beam wing, we have the seen the ducts and holes.

Experimental ? As in a new concept eventho the current one is a new concept for Lotus ? Or another completely new concept nothing alike the others ? Whatever it is, its sounds very intresting!

This is my first post on f1technical. Just curious if anyone thinks that the laser dot on the ground in front of the tea tray indicates that lotus is running some sort of continuously variable suspension trick. Im notsaying the laser is controlling ride height but rather data logging to ensure it's working properly. Perhaps there is another laser underneath the floor further back as well. The Sparks flying and the lower rear on low fuel later in the race indicate to me that something unusual could be at play

Although the new fron wing for (almost) every race is their regular policy
