Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What, does an F1-level screen need to be gilded or something?

The control arm is aero neutral per the rules. If that is the case how do you get down-force?

Brian
You sure the rules say that?
The rules say no angle of attach greater than 5 degrees, and section of arm must be symeterical about the major axis.
That doesn't really declare aero neutrality.
Even if it was completely aero neutral infree stream air if you put an exhaust flow directly under it, it stops being neutral. A wing generates lift by having one side longer than the other, but this is to force the air stream to flow at different speeds . If you cause the airflow to artificially flow at different speeds, it doesn't matter what shape the object is, lift is still created.

Can I ask? The upper air intake on the RB8 appears to have little option to provide a meaningful channel of air from the photos with the nose off. However, the lower intake does interest me and I am wondering if it is possible that this could be used to feed air down the inside the lower front suspension and feed directly into assist in cooling the front brakes? The RB8 is pictured many times on testing day 7 & 8 with the front brake ducts appearing to be completely covered or closed off?ImageAs you can see from this image, the duct is covered with what looks like a sticker (Not RBs first use of these), but the shadows clearly show that the duct is flat with no change in surface profile?

Newey diary: We've already got them guessing with our unfeasibly large slot "for driver cooling" in the bump and they're no doubt rubbing their hands and waiting for Sunday for the final piece of the jigsaw to be fitted into place.

maybe the new chassis will be to do with this?

What chassis number have they been running so far, and what will the new chassis number be?

Not sure mate. Here is the interview with Marko where he says they're changing chassis's & all teams reluctantly agreed. He implies new exhaust too. Also mentions the letterbox on the nose.

Why do I get the feeling that Newey is going to have the last laugh for Macca's copying his blown diffuser last year? This new chassis and exhaust they are mentioning sounds like the death knell for all other teams in the paddock.

I'll never forget his statement last year after beginning work on the 2012 car stating the RB8 would "dazzle and amaze" the F1 world. I get the feeling the Red Bull hammer is about to fall. Fasten your seatbelts.

Lol you obviously like dull seasons with dominance of 1 person isnt it obvious that most cars are gonna bring full updatesfor the next 2 days what should should be inferesting is the time posted by rb and macca when they finally decide to put there foot down and then we can have the comments of domination.
