Lando needs to work on his starts and the first/second corners. Race was lost there today for Lando.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

I think there's something off with the starts, though. It's always the 2nd phase, and then him scrambling to make up for it and making mistakes. They're definitely not his forte, but he had a lot great ones last year. I wonder if there's a bit of a gear box issue mixed with that

I've been saying it for a long time, Lando needs to get some help on mind management, he is pure talent with marshmallow thinking. It's up to him to get the help he needs, not soul-searching over what he got wrong and further doing his head in. Much potential, change of approach is needed.
He looked a bit like a beaten man to me after today’s race.
Think the realisation that the WDC has slipped away has just hit him
Yeah but....
He only lost 2 points to Max (and the opportunity to score big)
And WDC was a distant dream, possible but unlikely. In days gone by these kinds of comebacks were possible but modern F1 cars are virtually 100% reliable. Max drove savvy today like he needed to do "damage limitation" as he said before the race.
If team and driver had nailed it, he'd be in there. But both have made mistakes, although many put too much weight on strategy.

Both this and previous strategy blunders are in a good part down to the pit stops. Like Lando overshooting at Silverstone and ruining the chances for the strategy to work, even if it still wasn't the best strategy.

Lando often cracks under pressure. Made another mistake chasing Max when within DRS range, then couldn't get back.

Not sure what race I watched but Lando was within 0.5s of Max in the last 5-6 laps

That's a boost. More points than merc after all, and extra gains to RB.

We could still make a one stop work, but it's much less clear now which strategy was best.

This explains why toto couldn't understand Russels pace.

I feel for Russel though, poor guy will be sick to his stomach.

Are you are suggesting Toto Wolff can suss-out 'something isn't adding up' just because of a 1.5kg weight deficit in one of his cars ?

Sorry mate, that's anointing the human brain too much granular discretion. It's not possible.

Is it possible that Rusell spent more petrol during his defence and now he was underweight because of it?

No, it's saying Toto said he expected Russel to finish 5th whether he 1 or 2 stopped and didn't know how he did it.

I think the lack of granular discretion may sit somewhere else 🤔 😆

No. The car was underweight by 1.5kg without fuel, meaning he had a tenth and a half advantage every lap. At the end of the race that would have made a reasonable difference to the tyres too.

That means whatever they did to the car on saturday, which then later went into parc-ferme' , there is no way to check the lagality of a car before qualifying and before a race ? How does this whole 'car legality' work ?
