Whiting to autosport.com:

"The DRS zone will be on the last straight and the pits straight," said Whiting when asked by AUTOSPORT to confirm where the two zones will be in Canada..
"There will be one detection zone. The initial detection will be after Turn 10, then they can have another go [on the main straight]."

Emerson Fittipaldi will be this events race steward btw.

So, if they get ahead using DRS on the first straight, they can use it to pull away on the second. strange.

So one detection point for both DRS-Zones?

I was actually looking for that official graphic, but there isn't any yet.

Do you think any driver will try to do a one-stopper this weekend?

really depends on the tire performance, but as there are more faster corners than at monaco, it would be quite hard to maintain speed on worn tires

i got a funny feeling about this race, it will be interesting to see how close the McLaren can get to the RedBull in quali-pace. I feel that Hamilton has a very strong chance for pole here (and paying $4 to Vettels $1.40 its worth a shot), but also i see Alonso the dark horse with his car showing some promise at monaco (and paying $12 for pole worth a punt if your a keen gambling man).

Though i cant help think that Vettel will be good fortunes and with the qualifying gaps he has had this season makes me wonder is the McLaren straight-line advantage worth that .6 that Vettel has been finding. Also to note Seb has been relatively kind to his tires in comparison to Hamilton, so could be interesting to see which cars perform out of the corners better compared to who can eeeek the extra laps out of the tires.

Truely think we are going to get a thriller this weekend

No, according to Pirelli : "The characteristics of Canada mean that we’re unlikely to see a one-stop strategy this weekend, but we’re hoping that the racing will be just as close and that the opportunities for overtaking will give teams even more possibilities than Monaco in terms of race strategy,” describes Hembery, Pirelli’s Motorsport Director."

He didn't say that it's impossible though...

if someone will it must be Sauber....but with two DRS zones and track layout I think overtaking will be easier so protecting your position is all but impossible -the emphasis must be to run on good rubber and NOT fall from the cliff .You just cannot afford to reaqch the sharp dropoff in pace..so somehow teams and drivers need to sniff the cliff coming BEFORE the performance drops like a stone.
The time loss through the pits is not that big in Canada with only 14 seconds so you cannot afford to hesitate.

Does anyone know the current situation on the retarded ignition ruling? It all seems to have gone quiet again. Has the ban been shelved indefinitely?

The last I heard, the ban was to come into force for the British GP. Not sure what the current situation is.

Weather forcast still says heavy rain for qually and race, I don't think we'll get an answer about our tyre wear problem... We will quite possibly get an answer about whether there's enough wets for the weekend though – I doubt it.

I actually think we'll just get a 2/3 stopper actually, in dry conditions. We've never seen how the wets behave in race conditions, so that'll be rather tricky.

The weather shouldn't be all that bad in Montreal, at least for qualifying. Here in Toronto it's supposed to stay fairly sunny, and my friend in Montreal says weather predictions are saying sunny on Friday, small chance of light rain on Saturday, and then off and on light rain on Sunday. They're not expecting any storms or downpours.

Aren't these all predictions based on the entire city though? ie maybe it does rain, but not necessarily at the circuit?

Usually weather people will base their predictions on the downtown core. The circuit is on an island about a 5 minute drive from downtown (just across the bridge) so I think it's safe to take the predictions at face value. It would be different if this were Istanbul Park for example, and the track was not in the city.

Saying that, I wouldn't put too much credit into any weather prediction until at the very elast the day before.
