Messing with Monza T1, outrageous. I love that corner, the overtakes and the drama. Still, I'd imagine the kerbs are still a strong deterrent to anyone looking to cut corners and this is why they have created a bit more space for overtaking. Although I enjoyed the odd bit of drama and bumper cars here, this shouldn't impact it too much, it looks more like an opportunity to get out of a tight spot than anything else.

In Q3 if Mclaren arent the fastest, they should definatly send Piastri out followed by Norris, and on their hot laps let Norris be behind Piastri by 3-4 seconds so he can use his Slipstream the whole lap, like when Kimi followed Vettel and got pole in Ferrari. from memory it helps the second car go 4-5 tenths faster

Yes every team will try the team slipstream game in Q3 with the #1 driver towing #2 for the first run and vice versa for the last run. Questions will be 1) will McL try this also or try to get their tows from other drivers? 2) does it matter since passing here reasonably easy (unless you are in a DRS train) 3) can both McLarens without towing each other keep up with Max who will inevitably get a Checo tow 4) will we see a repeat of the drama a few years ago when only Carlos made it to the line before the red light

I'm honestly confused by some of the Oscar bashing. Constructive criticism is always welcome and appreciated, but it has exceeded that. No matter your expectations of him, or the hype that was surrounding him, he's still in his 2nd year in F1. Does anyone remember Lando's second F1 season? He was still struggling with consistency in the races. The speed was there, you could tell he had potential, but he found it difficult to perform at a high level over race distance. He struggled with tyre management, first laps (clean start, but got bullied by those around him). But the most important quality he had, and Oscar has it as well, is bringing the car home. I'm happy with Oscar, has a lot to learn, but in my opinion, he's still very much on a positive trajectory, and over performing, if we look at the data, based on nbr of races he's competed in. It's because of this, it's very much game on in the constructors. There are some things you can only fix with experience.
Agree 100%.

I seriously don't understand some of the fans on here. Not just in this thread, but especially in here.

After all the years in the wilderness, we're finally back where we belong. We're fighting for wins on merit with 2 exciting young drivers pushing each other and the team onwards.

Why is there so much negativity towards one driver or the other??

(Towards Will Joseph I can kinda understand lol)

Why can't we all join in celebrating the success of McLaren??

Let's be honest, we've all had times over the past 12 years where we didn't think we'd get back here!!
If I come across as blunt, I apologise, it's my ASD. Sometimes, like an F1 car aqua-planing, it gets out of my control.

I put it down to the social media culture of the time. Time gets compressed into recency bias - what happened at last week's GP supersedes the GP before. Many here looking for instant gratification are forgetting where we (McLaren) came from. Because we won at Miami and the "upgrades" appear to have worked mightily somehow that means we need a win each week - or someone to blame. I'm living the dream as a McLaren fan since Bruce first painted his cars papaya. I lived through the post Mosley depression of the FIA and it's hatred of a certain RD. I'm celebrating every time we get a podium, which I think stretches all the way back to China, 11 races ago.

Face it, the grumblers and naysayers here aren't regulars. We're the never say die McLaren fans who barely wavered through the 2010s with the Honda PUs. We thought it great when Seidl joined, never realising that another Andrea would become the catalyst to putting the band back together, starting in 2023. We have Lando and Oscar leading the charge, two quick young guys who also are extremely likeable. I would love to hear some chat on what people think Rob Marshall is bringing to the table......

Ferrari visibly lower-loaded. Hopefully they “mathed” this correctly. Might not be a big difference in quali with the drs, but will how things are looking I don’t see how they will be able to match Ferrari’s top speed without drs.

Edit : I think that’s Oscar’s car. Lando has a wing which seems to have a much thinner lower element (akin to Ferrari), as well as smaller tips.

New wing for reference :

Just look at that alpine rear wing!! Do they even intend on making it through any of the corners? Ha

I don't want to get ahead of myself but the team in their preview is quite optimistic. Piastri often times is more open about their expectations. Here is what he says (emphasis mine):
“The team returned strongly last week, and now we’re ready to do it all again this weekend in Monza. We’ve gone over our learnings from Zandvoort to see what we can take through to this weekend as we have a very quick car, which makes it even more exciting.

“I’ve raced in Monza a few times in the junior series, and it’s one a lot of us enjoy due to how fast it is. I’m very much looking forward to racing in front of the Italian fans once again as it brings such a good atmosphere. We have a great opportunity to finish the double header in the best way possible.”

Lets keep pushing with the upgrades. Our main target is the WCC and if we get the WDC also even better. It will offer closure to our team that was almost killed by the vendetta of mr. Mosley and it will reset the championship year count.

McLaren and Piastri talking each week about if/when he'll need to play the team game.

https://www.racefans.net/2024/08/29/mcl ... k-piastri/
“I think for myself, I’m still allowed to go for the best result possible even if that is winning the race myself.”

However Piastri said the situation is under regular review as McLaren strive to close the gap to Red Bull in both championships.

“Of course it will be taken on a week-by-week basis, depending on what the gap is, in some ways,” he said. “So for me it doesn’t change much.

“I will still go into every weekend trying to win the races if I can, because – okay, the chance for me is very, very tough, but it’s still not zero for myself even. So let’s see what the next few races hold, but it’s something that we will talk about quite a lot, I would imagine.”
And Lando talking about the pressure he feels, going into each race weekend: https://www.racefans.net/2024/08/29/i-b ... tle-fight/

The new low DF rear wing on Lando's car is working well by the looks of it. Close to the top of the speed trap, and I think that was with the "full" front wing as well.
