Scuderia Ferrari SF15-T

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

"The Ferrari has approved a new aerodynamic package for the Grand Prix of Spain that, according to the simulations, should be worth three to four tenths of a second. At Maranello they are rather confident since the data is read (also) in the wind tunnel (initially there was talk of half a second!)"

The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.

It always wonder where the teams find that much time given that the rules have been 'almost' the same since a while.

Guess a shorter nose plays a big role in this

James Allison's actually been referring to these aero regulations as fairly 'young' and saying therefore there's plenty of performance to explore.

Fyi I can't seem to open that omnicorse link.

If i understood the article good enough, Ferrari has no intentions of running a shorter nose anytime soon, so there wont be a shorter nose in Spain

Typically the goal is 1 point of DF found a week. Around 3 is roughly equivalent to 1 tenth. The engineers would have been working on these packages since the start of the year. A 3 to 4 tenth gain is about what is expected. Some teams dump a big upgrade all at once, others trickle the stuff onto the car. I don't expect a big shake-up with the top teams since those teams haven't gone fundamentally wrong anywhere. The lower teams could shake things up a bit. If Renault improves their PU's drivability then there could be a good step jump for those teams.

being interviewed by italian journalist Leo Turrini, Maurizio Arrivabene said:

“…Il nostro piano di sviluppo prevede un brusco cambiamento. La monoposto che vedrete da venerdì in pista è per il settanta per cento diversa da quella che ha disputato i primi quattro Gran premi,
sarà quasi una SF15-T bis, uguale solo nel muso”

"Our developing plan provide huge changes. The car you will see since friday on track, is about 70% different
from the one which run the first 4 races,
it will be almost a SF15-T mark II, only the nose won't change.

Not just the vane... I can make out a huge inboard ridge or step in the frontal view that runs down the length of the side pod.

Good point, not sure if they dropped the pod or moved up the ridge.

It would appear that the rumors of a large aero package are coming true with confirmed brake ducts and sidepod updates. Rumored but yet to be seen are front & rear wings, floor and diffuser. Now if it all works as they hope, we may have a real championship battle this season.

It can be seen here the side pod top has been dropped just above Shell logo which exposes the vane as seen in other picture.

My question is has the outer side pod top been lowered, the inboard portion been raised, or some combination of the two?
