To everyone designing their own f1 cars

Post

With quite a few people working on their own f1 cars, i thought it would be a good idea if we agreed on standardised dimensions for some parts such as:

A fixed volume for the fuel tank
Engine dimensions (i found some here: http://www.mwerks.com/artman/publish/fe ... _982.shtml
radiator area and thickness
airbox area

This would mean that the cars were more realistic and more comparable

quite useful, but the program i use doesnt have any measurements.

Anyway I'm already using a bit of scaling, using Wheels and Engine from the F1 2010 game

I think it could go further!
Fixed wheelbase? I actually have a model in sketchup (but mega detailed) of all the basic and homologated parts of the car, including internals (but not radiators).

This model is ultra detailed and includes: front wing central section, tyres, engine, gearbox, fuel tank (may change to match above link), and the skid block.

wheelbase is 3000mm.

Would you be able to send me the file Tozza please, as i too am struggling with the internals :)
Many Thanks

@Tozza Mazza; in that case could be cool if you could share engine, gearbox and exhaust models, by this everyone has the same high detailed parts.

The fuel tank I have is 231 litres, which is there or thereabouts with a real F1 car. The engine uses the shape of the rs27 and measurements from Paul B.

I don't have exhausts on the engine, as I don't know about the engine regs and there is some design freedom in exhaust positioning.

I want to work on getting the gearbox a little more realistic, but I'm happy to send once I've done this.

Hi thanks Tozza, i have loads of ideas which i have on my existing car, but its not realistic measurements on the engine, fuel tank, gearbox etc, they are just estimates and this would help alot,

does it contain the suspension?

I'm using the regulations.
That's enough standards for me. 8)

radiator are and thickness standardized doesn't really work in reality.
The heat rejection of each car will be different, and the side pod shape will also affect how effective the radiator flow is; hence the need to be able to have freedom to tailor the radiator size.

The cars will be more comparable with the current regulations being strictly adhered to.
And also a standard cfd air speed and conditions.

Don't let me stop anyone from running standardized dimensions though. It would be interesting to compare, and maybe i follow suit later down. But for now i can't sidetrack my plans. The car's shape will change.

I agree with a standard engine size though, but it must be realistic and accurate.
For Sure!!

I think that a minimum size of airbox opening and sidepod opening is also required, as a car with smaller openings will obviously work better.

I agree with Ringo about standardised flow conditions, as then direct comparisons can be made.

I might be modelling an F1 car soon. I just have to finish my LMP car..

There is a standardised internals and everything for people designing cars.. it's called F1 game. surely this is just doing the exact same thing but not actually in the championship?

If so then use that since it was probably designed with more info and parameters than we are likely to get.

Excuse my ignorance and my bad English but I'd like to know how I can start with modelling cars, even F1 cars. Do I have to start from an existing project/template? Have you got any guides?
Thanks for the answers.

You use the FIA rules and use computer aided design to produce it
