barge board

Post

Talking about barge board, makes me wonder why only a few team put it on theis car but some others not. Ferrari,Mc laren, Renault and Sauber put it on their car. Toyota and BAR did not using a barge boards. Is it not a compulsory to put a barge boards? That is on a regulation aspect. Barge boards improving the air flow into the sidepods. Was it a necessities to an F1 car?

Barge Board "tasks": Flowing some of the airflow around the side pod, clearing some of the airflow, flowing air into the sidepod and removing excess air from underneth the monocoque (canalizing it into the radiator).

Geoff Willis said there really is no advantage to either method, but more of optimizing either setup for the car. Of course, I heard that he was the one who created the "axes" setup, so maybe he's trying to hide something.
