DTM , JGTC and Grand-Am Unified?

Post

There has been a great deal of speculation in the past year about a possible fusion wanted in great part by the new-entry BMW. Autosport is reporting that talks are well under way for creating a World Championship of the three series DTM, JGTC and Grand-Am. Currently the JGTC has V8 3,4 litre engines (Honda, Toyota and Nissan).
The DTM has V8 4,0 litre engines (Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW). The American Grand-Am series is becoming increasingly a GT rather than DP series. The entry list for the Daytona 24 hour race in late January confirms this trend. Grand-Am recently nominated Gabriel Cadringher former FIA head engineer to establish technical regulations.

I doubt it. There might be a merger between Super GT and DTM, but I doubt there will be a merger of all three. Though, the DP's are hideous and need to be axed.

The jap and German series will work well together.

As I recall they discussed this over a year ago, but couldn't agree engine specs. Many a list venues were discussed along with the portero de los Funes track in Argie.
Potential is there for this to be massive, and now BMW have joined the DTM, it has even more momentum along with stable rules.

Fingers crossed this happens.
More could have been done.

Have you seen the new Corvette DP? Not quite as ugly.

That rumor has some legs.

The DTM announced that they intend to race in the USA starting in 2013. Grand-Am was named as the sanctioning body.

As far as DTM and JGTC, It's real and its been going on for a while. Had not heard anything on the Grand Am side. Having worked in that series, I think that even merging the DP teams into a DTM or SuperGT formula would be a big jump and not realistic in the near term.

The engine rules weren't the only thing that got push back. The two rule sets are quite different so theres been some things not going smoothly. The changes leaned heavily toward DTM and that left the Japan cars at a disadvantage. Increasing your overhangs and wheelbase specs a little is not a big deal for a development standpoint. Going to a spec chassis or diffusers and wings going up against people who have been working with those for a while... trying to perfect it all in tandem is a challenge. Luckily the schedule was better than anticipated but I foresee many japan teams struggling.

Side note, the name JGTC has not been used for nearly ten years. It was changed to SuperGT after they decided to have events internationally.

Especially since Grand-Am wants to improve the DPs to be on pace with P2s of ALMS in 2014.

As of last year GT500 was still about 2 secs per lap quicker than the quickest P2 car around Fuji, so try to imagine merging that level of car into grand am GT.

In a way I don't really have to. I could already see the difference on track tbh.

The GT300 class had a DP competing in for the past few years. The Shiden Mooncraft is a DP chassis. Ok sure it has a different engine than the grand-am ones but the Mooncraft still displays the DP's performance possibilities
