Cost of a season's tires

Post

I was reading an article on Indycar, where the tire costs were mentioned, $3K per set.

This got me wondering about the cost of F1 tires? One has to assume being as there are only Pirelli to use, they would seem not to have any need to give them away to some teams free, right?

Anyone have an ideas what they cost and do some get them gratis?

They cost enough last year to force some teams into one stopping when the top of the field did a two stopper strategy.

I would think the money to "buy" the tyres, as it were, is part of the team entrance fee already, no? Robbobnob I can't pick out if you're being sarcastic or being serious, but I don't think they will pay per set.

@Robbobnob

That isn't true.
After each race Pirelli cut up ALL the tyres. New, used, whatever and recycle the rubber.
I am sure it is a part of the entrence fee allready.
But it would still be interresting to know what each tyre costs to make. I am sure it is jolly expensive.

according the deal between Pirreli and the FIA every team pay 1mil euro per season for the tyres supply by Pirreli so no matter how many new tyres left you still need to pay that much as Pirreli will just throw away the tyres after every GP even though its a new and unused set
