Nose devices for testing or manufacturing?

Post

Does anyone know what these devices are on this Williams nose? Are the part of the manufacturing or testing process?

I think this is a nose for a FW33

I know those from sheet metal work and they are called clecos .You would temporarily fix two pieces and replace by rivets for final fit for example.Very nice to clamp to pieces tight when no access from behind or a clamp just won´t do the trick.

Thanks marcrush https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=clecos

Why would they need those on a single piece nose cone?

hey , thanks .
But i guess the front wing pylons and the front nose aren't one single structure and in-order to assemble them. they used cleco's. But I still don't get it, how they permanently hold together.

glue,perhaps'?
on a serious note these parts are assembled using structural adhesives

by using the industrial adhesive on the front nose. how much percentage does it add to the structure load capacity and reliability.

You would be surprised how much of an F1 chassis is bonded (glued) together without detrimental effects thanks to design and adhesive composition/properties.

We actually tested some once by gluing a pair of shoes to a plate, getting someone (me at 100kgs+) to strap into them and turning them upside down. Lets just say the shoe's failed before the adhesive did.

errm ..I know what it is and know how to google. forgive that I´m not walking to my workshop a take a picture of those in my toolchest...
These little friends are very versatile in sheetmetal work .
I´m a bit surprised they are used in formula 1 for structural bonds tbh.

You are absolutely correct. This is not two halves of the nose cone being bonded together. I would think the nose cone is one piece. Lighter and stronger that a bonded seam. These nose cones are no exactly low structures relative to the CG height.
