Research In Motion (RIM), the developers and manufacturers of BlackBerry smartphones applied for a patent for placing fuel cells beneath the keypad of their handheld devices. The purpose, although I am not sure of it completely, is to recharge the device on the fly, how exactly, I am not sure. But it will be an amazing breakthrough in the world of portable handheld devices as the most significant constraint in their usage is the energy stored in the battery pack!
