Ferrarri barge board aero

Post

Do the vanes at the front of the barge board help the flow to follow the barge board's curvature or go over it?

The vanes are at the rear of the bargeboards.

Absolutely correct, my mistake. I understand the function of the vanes then.

I figured you would, once you understood they were at the back. Hence, the lack of explanation.

Isn't there a regulation which states nothing can be outside the floor profile? That is, when looking at the car from below, you shouldn't see anything poking out past the floor? Or am I wrong.

Correct. But due to its location on the step plane it is considered part of the floor

so:
In an area lying 650mm or less from the car centre line, and from 450mm forward of the rear face of the cockpit entry template to 350mm forward of the rear wheel centre line, any intersection of any bodywork visible from beneath the car with a lateral or longitudinal vertical plane should form one continuous line which is visible from beneath the car.
those fins are okay because they're outside these specs? I wonder how far you could actually push that then. Seems like another loophole awaiting exploration.

those vanes are angled downwards... more of them could create a venturi like in the old days, but extraction would need to be improved at the rear of the car for that to be effective

Clever, it's great for guiding air to the floor, when the car is generating enough pressure gradient to take advantage of it, trouble is in Hungary there were only two corners where they could benefit, and it seems they still need to tweak the design to make them less yaw sensitive.
