I was doing around 38 in a 30. and 1 car infront. can that car in front take the hit and i get away as i braked down to 30 asap. how long does it take it lock on to the car the read the speed then they do it to the next car? it was not held by a man was fixed in van
I know u get 10 percent and 2mph but not sure on the 2mph i know deffo 10 percent
The 10% is not there to allow you to drive at 33mph in a 30mph zone, car speedometers are not subject to regular calibration so the 10% margin for exceedance is to allow for this. As an example, if your car reads 30, but its at the higher end of the scale and your actual speed is 33, and you take advantage of the 10% and drive at an indicated speed of 33 you're infact doing 36. Still, at least they often give you the option between a days driver training and points and fine now.

Not sure how the rules/cars are in your country, but here in Italy the speedometers are forced by law to indicate from 1 to 8% more than the real speed. They do that in order to compensate reading errors, because it's not safe to show you a lower speed than the real one. So it is very difficult that a speedo indicates a lower speed than real.
strad wrote:ditto,,,the speedo usually lies and gives a lower than actual speed.
Also isnt there usually an accompanying flash?...there usually is here.
I already know the speedo are out during manufacture. on my gps doing 38 in my car my gps reads 35mph
I thing that puzzles me i cant find a definite answer. If i was behind car in front will i have got away with it as iv read it has to get numberplate or can hit car but if its car can sometimes get laser slip.
Most cameras don't use flash anymore, just massive IR cameras. And those i believe are used in the police vans.
Maybe you are lucky and they may have been shutting off or setting up. Either way, don't worry about it, you aren't a criminal... unless you were 'speeding' to get away from the scene of a bank robbery or something
If you are over 45% of the posted limit you are then in the land of a summons to court and a bigger rap on the knuckles.
I know this - 38 in a 30 (twice..ahem) got me Speed Awareness courses - very good courses...and you ask why I was got twice..I'll tell you over a beer.
As for the 45% info...well...86 in a 60 is enough for a summons.....which I am waiting for.
surely the summons can be dealt with by means of posting your plea? and not actually having to turn up?
I was seen by an unmarked car doing quite a nice wheelie, summons came with and order that said if i failed to turn up for court then a warrant would be issued for my arrest... must have got me mixed up with a rapist or something.
Is it only me who thinks that a court appearance for a normal working person is quite OTT? 86 in a 60... just doesn't seem that bad to me.
in most cases where you a caught speeding, there is no bad consequence to the public or yourself, its really the only 'crime' like this. Ask yourself 'what did you do' was anyone hurt by what you did? offended? put in danger?
After my dealings with incompetent members of the law (whom didn't understand what causes a bike to wheelie) i find the whole speeding thing disgusting. I really believe the act of speeding is circumstantial to a million factors at one time and is often not intended and has no real motive behind it.
and to make it worse, a very genuine 'sorry' is never going to be enough, what a disgusting society we live in with these kind of laws... i am sorry, i made a mistake, very poor judgement, we are working men who make this country go around and take all the stress with it to earn more so you can afford to live in a nice area where you car/bike will not get stolen, or your home broken into or worse, people you care about get mugged or harmed.
