PC Game: Project CARS... oh my...

Post

Up and coming PC based racing game, which is said to be a bit of a Sim, but probably more for fun.

I'm not expecting it to be on the same level as iRacing etc, infact no where near in terms of sim, but it has to be the best looking racing game my eyes have ever seen... i know a lot of you will appreciate the lotus in this video. The game will have latest F1 cars, and F1 cars from all era's. So in my book that alreasy beats codemasters F1 series dead.

Beautiful.

Looks good but it's because it uses the latest gen graphics.
Physics are a joke but if you want those graphics but with probably better physics then iracing, Assetto Corsa is your friend.
I assume you will google it but keep in mind game is not optimized yet so looks routher then Pcars.

yeah i agree about the physics, but i place my expectations somewhere between GT5 and a full on sim like iRacing. I am very pleased there is now a game that looks so complete and juicy so that polyphony digital will finally be shown that GT5 really is not the way you make an exciting game with cars.

I hope this game can steal the F1 rights as i am sick to death of codemasters F1 games, they are so short and far to easy... they are so false they might as well mount machine guns on the cars... it wouldn't make it any more unrealistic than it already is!

I'll check out Assetto Corsa, i appreciate projects that are in alpha build status, for me its more about the look of the car moving, anyone can spot if it looks 'life like' something never seen in the codemasters F1 games.

a preview of the new tyre model is available since about a week ago which can be activated by running the game with " -seta" added to the shortcut.

its easier to catch the car if it starts to slide now and the cars dont feel quite as glued to the track.

they added rain effects to some of the tracks aswell

I checked out assetto corsa, very hard to find much on it in terms of visuals demonstrations of how the game handles itself, more just people sat in simracing rigs so really its hard to judge!

Snoop, those rain effects look stunning... i think this game might need quad 690 SLI to run this on 3x27" panels... bloody graphics cards

I've tried NetKarPro a long time ago, it was the most hardcore sim out there at the time, many say it's on par or superior to iRacing. Assetto Corsa is being made by the same developer (it's not released yet), and is based on the same physics engine. The things that concern me about it are its features and content in terms of cars and tracks. Kunos is a very small group. Compared to ISI with their rFactor2 they are well behind the curve in terms of 'simulating everything' (live track surface, live-weather with 24h day-night cycle with complex physics behind all that, various customizable racing rules, best net-code etc. etc.), and don't have the huge mod-making community that ISI have to expand on the stock content.

Nkpro was and probably still is one of the best driving simulators on the market.

Assetto Corsa will be anyway something completely new and it will not based at all on the nkpro engine. They built everything new learning from the good and bad things of NkPro.

They will have a lot of official licenses both for cars (BMW, Lotus, Tatuus, Pagani...) and for tracks (Monza, Nurbugring, Imola, Mugello and many other, chech their websites), so also from the player perspective it will look very different than nkpro...i really look forward to it.

Those clouds are rather scary rushing across at hurricane speeds! Its a bit distracting, especially on the straight after the hairpin when they seem to be overtaking the car.

If they are, it would mean the clouds are going faster due to a tailwind. In fact it would mean you'd have lift on the car's rear wing. Has the design team taken that into account? 8)

Only if the wind at 2000m was still attached to the track surface? It alls depends on boundary conditions and wind shear at higher levels.

Perhaps the games makers made that mistake because they were limited to a 60% wind tunnel and failed to get sufficient correlation with the CFD modelling? Modelling on that scale tends be better with LES (Large Eddy Simulation).

they are moving fast because he set the day/night cycle to 300x or 360x whatever the option is

which is how it goes from day to night in about 2 minutes
