McLaren to hire De La Rosa

Post

<img src="http://www.f1technical.net/images/news2003/delarosa.jpg" alt="" align="left">Following teams like Ferrari and Williams, who both have 2 permanent test drivers, McLaren had occasionally hired Pedro De La Rosa, the 32 year old spaniard who drove for Arrows and Jaguar for some tests. The team was however impressed by his feedback, that they decided to hire him permanently to further develop the MP4/17D and MP4/18. He will be joining Raikkonen, Coulthard and Wurz to do the job

It is good to see a driver of Pedro,s status still involved in F1. With his wealth of knowledge it can only benefit McClaren. Is Alex Wurz on a long term contract, or is his future at stake? I dont think so. As the big teams have 2 testers, it seems the way to go.
How about Webber!!! The new qualifying rules maybe a bit of a lottery, but what fun, It can only be for the best.
Keep the faith

hmmm I think it's kind of a situation like Gene at Williams. Just like Wurz, he is capable of driving a very good F1 season himself, but got in a testing role, and both may never come out of it again, at least not in F1.

Gene is now driving the Nissan World series in combination with his testing role at Williams, although I hope he will once take place of Ralf's race car, when they finally kick him out 8)
I have already written in the technical forum that I think the F3000 is a bad formula, and that the Nissan world series are defenately much more interesting for future F1-talents.

I fear you maybe right, but as the number of seats in F1 is limited i supose drivers need other series to keep a salary coming in. I am not too familiar with the Nissan Series, i will check it out.

I see you have anticipated where i was going with my dislike of gadgets, which do not contribute to the safety of the driver. In my own defence i do feel that more driver input makes more interesting racing, otherwise the sport will die and enthusiasts will start to fall out of love with it. We have also to remember that F1 is paid for by advertising, and if the public stop watchiong!!!!! it will go the way of the dinosaur. I must have missed your post in the echnical, i will check that out. Hopefully i can give you a cogent arguement on the subject, or you may change my mind for me

f Ralph does not pull something out of the bag, and make some sort of impact, he could lose his seat. He hasnt really delivered the goods with any sort of regularity. The occasional good drive. I take it that he is not one of your favourites,(overrated)?
