"Official" Senna helmets?

Post

I was browsing around for a nice replica Ayrton Senna helmet. I was hoping to buy an official Senna helmet, but I noticed the market is flooded with Senna helmets. Sellers also claim their products are "official" Senna merchandise, and they are "limited". What's going on?? Thanks in advance, gents.

Any current official Senna merchandise is found here...

They don't have helmets. Anything that uses the Senna name or logo should be licensed by the Senna Institute, so what you're seeing is either remaining stock of discontinued/limited official items ($$$), or ripoffs. I'd think that if you're buying from a reputable memorabilia store (i.e., not from some shmo on eBay), then you're probably safe. A lot of people will buy a plain Bell helmet and get it painted and try to sell it as official merchandise. I see some '94 and '88 full sized replica helmets out there that were made be Bell and licensed by the Institute, but they were limited runs (1000 and 50  respectively) - pricey items to say the least.

Hi Pup,

I did read somewhere there were only a 1000 produced, but don't know from which season they produced. Also, is there a way to tell the difference between the official & fake product, or did the fakers nail it to the point it's impossible to tell? Your thoughts everyone, thanks

Hi,

Yes, full scale.

I just contacted the Senna foundation & they referred me to a man named Sid. Sid, and his son painted Sennas helmets. The father unfortunately passed away sometime, but the son is still painting. They don't do real helmets, only replicas to be for display purposes only. They don't want Senna's colors used on the track for some reason, but that's fine with me, as I am a collector. Price won't be cheap at all, but at least your getting something special!

I think you didn't understand his post at all and have no idea of what he's actually looking for.

If anybody is looking for a Senna helmet to purchase, I have a signed helmet which was produced by phillip morris (his major sponsor) in Adelaide in 1993 at Adelaide's last Grand Prix. There were only 6 helmets Certified and i am lucky enough to have one of those. This helmet is for sale with all relevant paper from Phillip Morris.
