Honda's V8 engine as a weak point of the 'RA106

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Honda's V8 engine as a weak point of the 'RA106

You have to remember the Japanese corporate mentality. Honda are proud of the fact they are the largest engine manufacturer in the world. To admit weakness or failure to the public just won't happen. So maybe the Honda engine is one tic away from a hand grenade, maybe it's weak and needs redesign. But don't expect any public admissions, expect every kind of excuse but the engine, instead.

Honda: We're trailing behind Cosworth

Honda's F1 engine effort is trailing behind that of rivals Cosworth, according to Honda Racing Development's Engineering Director, Shuhei Nakamoto.

"At the moment Cosworth has done a good job and we are trailing behind them," explained Nakamoto to Autosport.com. "We should be able to produce better engines than we have now.

"If we had the engine of that level in our car, then probably we will be able to beat Renault," he continued. "But we have not, so we have got some work to do."

While Honda's testing times have been encouraging, Renault have managed to top each test, albeit by a slim margin. At this week's Jerez test, Button ended up just 0.108s behind Fernando Alonso. In contrast, the fastest Cosworth powered car, the Williams of Mark Webber, was a further 0.653s behind Button.

"We still have a lot more to come from fine tuning the chassis and the engine," added Nakamoto, "and I think we are much closer to the performance of 2004. In fact, we should be better as we have gained experience in 2005 so we will not make the mistakes we made in 2004."

It's all in relative terms. The engine is strong enough and will get better.
Alonso has repeated what he stated earlier:
''We're pretty quick, but if we talk about horse power, Honda and Ferrari are now in front.''

Since Honda admitted that Cosworth is in front of them than it means that Cosworth is in front of all teams now.

hard to believe that, i would have thought it be the other way around...with the chassis being a bit below par and engine allowing the overall package to stay at top of timesheets.

hope they sort it all out come bahrain...

probaly cooling problems....maybe  ..or the engine is place too close to the sidepod(similar to what Red Bull done)..Red Bull sort is out by cutting three holes under the chimney  ....I don't know what is wrong with that engine but I think I should go  ..http://racing.honda.com/ and get imformation

I caught a glimpse of something on the homepage this morning, one Mr Walker is now an official Honda spokesperson.

Will this not biase his 5live commentary, although with Murray he'll forget about it as soon as something exciting happens and start screaming mixed up facts down the mic, god we miss him.
