What did you learn today?

With so many of us working in technical fields I thought it might be fun to have an insight into our working lives with a thread where we can share the quirky and geeky things we learnt today.

Only one 'thing' per person per day. Keep it technical

My little gem is "sewage heat mining". Apparently 2 or 3% of London heat demand could be met if we "mined"heat from sewers and underground tunnels.

Not strictly technical, but embarrassing and engineer related, I only just noticed that it says 'Institution of Mechanical Engineers' and not 'Institute'

I learnt that HDR images are impossible when you shoot a mountain and there's a bird photobombing you. At least the alignment doesn't work and the tonemapping as well, which renders the whole exercise useless.
