Pinnacle of a different kind of motorsport

Post

Fair warning: the linked article is not about F1. And it's not about V6 engines either. I'm posting it here only because of the following quote:
“You essentially double the efficiency using this kind of motor,” Mr. Green said. The resulting speeds are astonishing. The V6 spins at more than 110,000 revolutions per minute, making it one of the fastest commercial motors ever made. By comparison, a Formula One race car’s engine spins at under 20,000 RPM.
So, what is this about? Yes, you guessed correctly. A vacuum cleaner. Nevertheless, a good read for those who are interested in technology innovation.

Brushless motors are not new, I use them for radiocontrol planes for more than 10 years now, and that´s on a hobby sector, at industry applications they have been used even longer.

For RC flying they were a revolution combined with lipo batteries. Since then any glow or petrol engine can be substituded with an electric configuration and perfomance will be similar. From the last 5-6 years with high discharge lipo batteries (up to 90C now) they can easily outperform any ICE configuration making possible perfomances that some years back were just imposible with any motor/engine.

The future is electric
