The Hole

Post

Can someone please explain what exactly is the function of the little hole in the engine cover, behind the driver's head ?

You think about engine air intake or about smaller transversal hole where cord for lifting car goes trough?

If it is the second one, some teams have it on top of the headrest...

...or like the pic of Renault shows behind the headrest

Different location, same purpose - to attach cord of car lifter.

Does it have any affect on the aerodynamics of the car? like when it turns or when there is side winds ? (im talking about the one for the cord)

This would be negligible in my opinion.

Dimensions of that hole are defined by FIA regulations so teams must make them. Personally, I think that its infuence on aero in turns or sidewind is not segnificant enogh to cause problems.
