Long time member xpensive banned

Post

Yes I realize this should be elsewhere but it will get plenty of views here till it gets moved.

I spoke with him on another automotive forum the other day and found out he was banned.

I'd like to take the time to thank moderator turbo/Andy for engaging in blatant moderator abuse by demanding someone apologize for a perceived slight taken by another member, and then banning xpensive for not kowtowing to his every wishes.

It's disgusting when a long time member who whether you agreed with him or not, was a great contributor to this site. He also was a legit engineer who knew his stuff far better than a lot of the purported technical geniuses with no actual real world experience.

Good job turbo...keep going with that Napoleonic complex you've got that shows up every time when you threaten posters in PM and they tell you how it is.

Edit: Maybe I'll get banned for this too. Wouldn't surprise me.

Just they type of thing I have complained about many times.
How does one start a movement to have Andy removed as Moderator?
I have argued (and agreed) with X many times and never once seen a need to have him banned.

I agree.

Andy is a terrible moderator who needs to step down since it's obvious he is incapable of not engaging in personal vendettas against posters when they will not do what he says.

While I've had tons of disagreements both heated, and not so heated with people on here, I've never wanted anyone banned. Disagreements are a way of life on message boards, welcome to the internet I suppose?

And I thought that these discussions are the reason you have a forum, if you want a flock that bleets your song you should be a shepherd. I'm not here to agree or disagree, but to have technical discussions. I found it strange that, when the only mod left was Richard, there was much less fanboyism going around (before Turbo became a mod) - how can that be? He was basically policing the entire forum, and yet had it more under control than it is nowadays. I believe that, without wanting to step on anybody's toes here, not everybody is capable of doing a job / taking responsibility, even if they want it. That would be like me starting my own forum, without having the time or xperience to do so...it would be doomed to failure. Now, having the right people in place (xperienced mods with a degree in engineering or lots of practical xperience in racing), it could work - but that is no guarantee. I think that this forum has been around quite a while and has gone through a few mods before, but I personally do not believe that Turbo is mature enough for this responsibility. His wing drawings are nice, which is a contribution to the quality of the forum, but that does not qualify one to be "the police" in a technical forum, education and xperience do. Steven, please think about this - I don't believe that it is in your interest to drive away long-time members, is it?

Just would like to say that i agree with the posters above. I've been lurking around here for long but never actually posted anything...
With that said I've never felt like the member wich was banned was being offensive to anyone, neither any reason whatsoever to be banned.
I believe, as said above, one has the right to have a different opinion than other. We should agree to disagree sometimes.

Gitanes,

You do your cause no good by writing the barbed accusations you have to the moderator(s). If you do get banned, it'll be you who is the architect of your own downfall. Exercising a bit of restraint in public would be a constructive way forwards methinks.

I'll miss X, sure. But not everyone gets him like we do, can you at least admit that?

Re: Long time member xpensive banned

Post

Summary:
- xpensive seriously offended a member in his own language
- The member reported this to the mods
- Mods asked xpensive to explain and sort things out
- xpensive told offended member to "cut the victimizing-yourself act"
- xpensive replied to mods:
xpensive wrote:No thanks, He is just pulling one of his so typical pranks on you, don't you get it?

But I find this entire discussion preposterous now and if you feel the urge/see the chance to ban me, just go ahead and make my day. I know you would make his anyways...

Will have a good laugh over this tonight

Banning xpensive was agreed upon unanimously, and not solely because of this incident.
If anyone wants to complain about that, PM me or the mods.

X faces the axe

Post

Guys ,
sorry I´m not going with you on that one - the ban goes unaccepted by me .
Sure Formula 1 is not what it was but this once magnificent site has also dropped into an alltime low -at least for me -and the moderating ethos here is at an alltime low now.The micromanagement does nothing but feed the ego of the mods in my view. The + and - and ranking is complete rubbish in my view and did not help the quality at all.
You might consider here are at least some grown up old farts who do not really need to be teached lessons on how to behave .
If Ciro cannot take Xs banter ,I´m quite sorry to hear this but hey we are grown up and I´m fed up to hear in my ethnic circle this or that is a no go .
so what ... this is an international forum I thought .
ciro well knows what X had in mind -there is absolutely no doubt it was not what Ciro made of it .

You guys make me sick. I have no joy visiting this site anymore and I feel not inclined to have this discussed per PM.

Instead of discussing wording and classify in acceptable or not acceptable it would have been quite easy to simply erase
the relevant post .No need to demand a pilgrimage to Canossa ...or as has been done let him face the axe ...

On a sidenote :the forum has lost much more valuable posters than pub and WB if you ask me .. my 2 cents maybe someone remembers 747H?

If you can't respect/accept cultural differences then yes you do.

I know X was a respected member within the community, but that doesn't give you immunity to go and break rules. It's a tough decision to make, but having read turbo's post I fully support the decision the admins have made.
