Barcelona In-Season Test 2016

Post

Is there any audio feeds of commentary on the tests like there is for the free practice sessions?

Is this test just trying out new drivers as nearly all the upgrades were probably bolted on the cars on Friday?

Williams have already revealed some radical test components on their FW38. They're not legal however they may simulate the greater downforce that's expected in 2017. So Williams are gaining knowledge of how their 2016 components would stand up to greater loads (stress and maybe aero).

I expect Mercedes will trial some fancy new Aero parts, as well as Red Bull and Ferarri. Things that are illegal now or deemed too risky to race with will be tested out this week.

So Williams builds a bunch of illegal parts just for testing but aren't capable of assembling two new front wings and noses for their drivers and instead make them take turns on it.
Interesting.

No upgrades on the Honda PU at the test today.Just running qual mode.(can't do that in the race because they would be about 10kg of fuel short)

Looks like no upgrades for Canada.....the soonest would be Spa if all goes right on test rig.(and it would be big....CC,Turbine and MGU-H)

Well they did gain .3 seconds just from optimizing the car for this track so far. Mclaren benefits more than most teams from some good old fashioned testing.

I think the more important question ask would be "how much increase in thermal efficiency?" coz that's what matters when it comes to performance on these cars

They also have the most to gain from their PU.

Everybody gets confused with this engine formula. It's not the hp you can get,it's the energy you can get from the fuel.(the PU with the higher efficiency wins) So pretty much look at the modern marine diesel power plants for clues.Every % better means more power from the limited flow and capacity.
