Ground effect in CFD

Post

Guys,

Does any one know how you model ground effect using Fluent. Seems like its not working in my case.

To make it simple I have placed a 3D twin element wing 150 mm above the ground and I dont see any sort of proper gain. The ground is defined as an absolute moving ground with no-slip conditions and yeah the wing is symmetrical as well.

Would be great if some one can help out. By the way the work is being done for the CFD forum so stay tuned for more fun later on

Thanks a lot in advance.

P.S. How on earth do you insert an image? Seems like it dont work either!

Probably because 150 mm would be far to far away I think, what chord length is the wing?

I guess that the distance to the ground would have to be about a quarter of the chord length.

* Do you have the wing at an angle of attack since it is symmetrical? Or are you keeping it at 0 to observe the differences easier? [A larger acceleration 'bubble' under the wing would show ground effect easier]

Well the wing meets the 2005 FIA regulations! Simple as that.

Since its a twin element wing in my case, I am not sure if you are talking about the quarter of a chord length of one aerofoil section or the whole of it.

Yeah, if you tell me how to upload images on this forum then I can show you some of the screen shots, should make it clearer and easier to understand.

Thanks a lot.

Yes, but isn't that alot of the problem with the new front wing regs, they are out of ground effect, and suffered alot more understeer behind other cars as a result...? :?

quarter chord of the first element.

Try photobucket.com to host the images then {img}{/img} them, replacing the { for [ brackets.

No wonder its not working! I thought you would still get some advantage! But I guess the rules are there for a reason

I'm an idiot!!!

I've got a paper here thats right up your street - I think I've already scanned it in for e-mailing to a buddy in the past. I can email it to you if you want?

Or if you can get it online, search for:
