Diffuser edges seems like an area where Ferrari is considering a change in philosophy when you consider everything we saw the past few days.

Agree re diffuser; they’ve been doing a lot of work in this area at the back end of the season...

...and if we think back to 2016, they spent a lot of time in the tea-tray/bat wing area (perhaps with their novel sidepod solution in mind, given how that needed to tie together with the overall aero philosophy).

So I guess this is an area they’re looking at heavily and we have some evidence to support that.

In terms of pure speculation, Ferrari had issues vs. Mercedes at tracks with long high speed corners and straights; to me this is primarily power unit deficit - they don’t have the same efficiency or deployment, so more on throttle favours Mercedes - but will the trend be towards longer wheelbase cars for more downforce producing surface?

Let's look back even further, and name the car after the engine's configuration.

We also heard earlier today that Ferrari - contrary to Red Bull - were in favour of the stricter controls on suspension, so interesting that they’re still having to make changes.

Probably because they couldn't get it to work. In theory the concept should work, having the car roll into the turn, as opposed to the natural tendency to roll away.

5mm of incidental movement is ridiculous though, as a car will easily move up and down more than this with a high caster angle.

Significant kingpin inclination might be at play here. I suggested in another thread that it may be approaching zero or negative scrub radius. Indicated by the far-inboard position of the upper pivot on the wheel upright on the '17 Merc and STR.

Effectively the front tires would be cam-ing up and down on their inner corners. Ride height reducing as steering angle increases and the tires "fall off" the center of the inner sidewall. Combined with caster angle, perhaps the effect is increased.

The regulations were already quite limiting. Only four pivot points permitted on the front uprights, for example. 2 arms, 1 steering and 1 suspension, effectively. Now there will/might be dimensional tolerances applied, if this article is to be believed.

I very much agree with the cubic capacity of one cylinder as the name of the car.....go back to tradition and try something different... Ive been saying this for years..

as for the T5 it is the 5th version of the car in hybrid era...but doesnt have a transverse gearbox......how bout' H5 (hybrid) 166H5 or 166P5 for prototype

T for Turbo.
P/Prototype designation was used for endurance racing, so wouldn't suit F1.

The early turbo cars in the 1980s were called 126C (C = compressor). So maybe C instead of T, or CH for compressor/hybrid.

Not sure why 126, maybe for the vee angle (120°)?
