Technical Director championship “hitrate”

Post

This is a question for the anoraks here. I have no clue what the answer is but does anyone know the “hitrate” for TDs in championships?

For example if a TD has “TDed” for 15 seasons and won 2 wdc, then thats 2/15 wdc hitrate. Or won 4 wcc then thats a 4/15 wcc hitrate

This is a good question, should it be decided by technical director (e.g, Patrick Head for Williams) or by chief designer (Frank Dernie, Adrian Newey, Geoff Willis etc for Williams)?

Do Willis' titles as part of the Mercedes engineering team count? :?:

Good question. Mercedes had multiple technical directors.

It’s technically all in the wording isn’t it? I mean. We could have a CD and a TD hitrate.

As people are demonstrating, the analysis is biased toward the technical director, but the technical director is not solely responsible for the technical performance of an F1 car.

Consider the Ferrari Dream Team from the early 2000s. Their cars were untouchable in that era.

Who gets the credit? Rory Byrne who designed them all? Ross Brawn who oversaw all technical aspects of the team? Jean Todt who managed the entire operation and kept everything moving together? How about Paolo Martinelli who oversaw the engine development program in those years?

How about Bridgestone, who was custom developing tires with Ferrari for optimal performance on a single car?

F1 is a team sport; they all get the credit!
