Not only regular full-season drivers who can hunt for F1 success, the part-time (non-regular) drivers also can hunt for F1 success although not through for full season. I mention Giancarlo Baghetti. He raced 21 times in 21 outings partially with only 1 win, 1 podium and 1 fastest lap.

Nico Hulkenberg - 2 races two points finishes

Andre Lotterer didn't do too bad. No points but he was close on pace to teammate if you compare him to Luca Badoer.

Mansell in 94. Won a race in his 4 races that season. Not been in an F1 car for 18 months, first weekend in the car qualified less than a tenth off his team mate. And in his 4th and final race that season, was on pole, and won.

Can we count Mansell and Hulk? I'd see them as already seasoned campaigners who came back in a part time role, which would be a bit different to someone who is drafted into the sport as a whole short term. Not saying we shouldn't, but there is a distinction.

What about Mario Andretti? He was a part-timer from 68-74 but when he did jump in an F1 car he’d be competitive e.g.:

- pole on his debut at the US GP in ‘68, despite joining at round 11 of the 12 race season
- win and fastest lap on his debut for Ferrari in 71 (still as a part-timer) also getting a non-championship race win shortly after

And then he did it again as a part-timer, at race 15 of the season, when he returned to replace Pironi in 82 and immediately put the Ferrari on pole.
