British GP - Race chat emotions

Post

Hi all,

Given today's interesting race, lots of emotional posts sprung up in the race thread.

I would like to take this chance to remind you this is mainly a technical forum. If you get too emotive, than perhaps it is wise to just hold off, breathe, and do some yoga instead.

Most of us however, no matter how geeky we are, are sometimes too excited for yoga, so we fire away online, giving the mods are fair amount of work here.

Today's temporary race thread lock was to give us some time to handle the posts. This has resulted in warnings, and a permanent ban for the user who posted (also race related, in many ways):

Please remember to stick with the rules, and don't post what you wouldn't say to a stranger in bar.

Also note we have a discord channel, which is far more suited for in-session chatting compared to the forum. You can find it here https://www.f1technical.net/live/ or https://discord.gg/24mvQvFzEX .

Appreciate the tough job this race gave you today, and thanks for tidying up. Especially some of the comments as above.

Yeah, fully behind Steven on that one.

To be clear: we respect opposing opinions. We certainly do not want to drive the conversation to one side or another. We want the conversation to stay constructive and respectful. Not just to members among themselves, but also to other people.

I also would like to applaud all the people who kept it decent. We have a lot of work today created by some, the majority kept it fair =D> .

Agreed. We all get a little hot under the collar occasionally - it's silly but it happens.

But some stuff is just plain unpleasant and has no place here. I tried to report some posts only to be told by the system that they'd already been reported so it seems there are some others that agree with this.

Well done to the team for doing such a quick clean up today. =D>

Are you going to have a look at voting rights of those who gave +1 to all the vitriol and trolling in the team threads in the fallout of this race?
Saw some accounts with mostly deleted posts (one of which was banned) and there's a decent number of recommendations there - surely that should disqualify a few people.

The toxic vitriol has spread far and wide on all forms of social media. Thank you to the mods here for clamping down. Not sure how often new accounts pop up on this forum just to troll, I'm seeing an increased activity from these sock puppet type accounts on reddit, twitter, discus etc.

People should understand that not all of these accounts are genuine. Walk away, save your sanity and enjoy the show.

Many many votes were checked, and quite a few PMs were sent out, yes.

This is good news, the site [or specifically, a few topics] was abhorent for the last few days and really isn`t going to make people want to visit.
Some posters were just puposely trying to wind up the situation!

p.s. Thanks to the mods/admin for trying to keep a lid on it, most are supposed to be adults on here...

It seems the point system is also being used to vent out opinions (anonymous) then have a merit on contributions. If you don’t agree, make a case, don’t hide behind a -1. (But this is been going on forever here)
