Dallara F2 2024 FIA Formula 2 2024-2026 all-new car discussion

Post

FIA Formula 2 Championship 2023 season will be final season for Dallara F2 2018 chassis car which has been required since 2018 season and from 2024 season onwards all new FIA Formula 2 Championship car will be used until at least 2026 with an option of extension until 2029 and thus Dallara F2 2018 will expected to retire after this season (if no subject to change). Dallara will expected to remain in FIA Formula 2 Championship until 2029.

I expect the design of Dallara F2 2024 car will be majorly based on Formula 1 2022 aerodynamics generational.

Your opinions?

Yes looking forward to the new F2 chassis. The next generation F2 cars will look more like the current F1 cars. Also it is confirmed the new F2 cars will have power steering. This is done to facilitate women entering the category. Chadwick & Calderon were lamenting the difficulty of driving the cars without power steering.

And how about the engines? Still same as 2018-present?

I only hope they don't become 5m long and heavy.

They are already close to an irrelevance in terms of fan following - the F2 serves solely to convey drivers through the ranks. no-one really makes the effort to watch the races any more, or do they?

Why should F2 be F1 relevant? If it is it's own series it should provide fast racing. If a "preparation" for F1 - then they'll make them as sterile as needed to achieve the laptimes.

I agree. Formula 2 should not be Formula 1.5 :!:

Name a feeder series that DOESN'T want a spec chassis. You could have the GT2 series of open wheelers with amateurs fielding novel cars, but this usually correlates with older drivers. The feeders series emulate the next eschelon cars because... what else would they emulate. Now if F2 wanted to go rogue and become the new F1 I could get behind that. All they would have to do open up their current formula a bit and say go at it. Soon they'd be lapping faster than F1 cars, and then the cameras would turn their way away from F1, and F1 drivers would start climbing back down the ladder, saying, "Please sir, may I be hired to drive for your team? Or as a test driver maybe."

They'll respond, "Oh, you've got some race wins, even a championship. That's quaint. Your from the slow series yeah?"

I usually find myself watching F3, skipping F2, watching most of F1 and some of Porsche Supercup.

F3 is just crazy from start to finish with those young drivers wanting to prove themselves. F2 I feel is almost as sterile as F1 is with whining left, right and center. And cars feel, while watching on TV, like they took the worst of F1 and F3 cars and combined it into F2 car. Not looks wise, they are actually pretty decent looking in my opinion. But they feel sluggish through corners like F1 on full tanks and slow out of corners like F3

The 2023 F2 car is already 5.22m long according to the specifications. The minimum weight is already 755kg according to the specifications.

The new 2024 cars look like a slightly modified 2023 F2 car with some 2022+ F1 styling cues, but in a bit of a half-hearted cost-reduced manner -- no wheel fairings and a slightly odd looking rear wing geometry for example. :)

A shame they didn't go back to the old Mechachrome V8 or to a new V10 (or V12 or rotary) racing engine, but I guess that was unlikely.

I watch it, it's good.

Of course a lighter car with a V8 or V10 engine (or a lighter car with the lighter Class One 2.0L engine from Super Formula) would be nice, but as an F1-lite the turbo engine and high kerb weight is appropriate to learn Pirelli tyre management.

I hope they openly distribute the owners manuals such as they did with the F3 cars.

I lost interest in F2 when they added DRS. But I might try it again this year O:)

Meh. 2008 McL is just the best looking, small car of all time IMHO. And if they upgraded to add a halo, sis, and just some edge skirts on the floor to give a df boost it would be sweet af.

And I recommend watching a vid on those Hayabusa V8s. They seem almost tailor made for a formula car like these. And 500hp in a 650kg car would lead to some fabulous racing. 😍😍

The current F2 engine already puts out over 620hp and much more torque than that busa v8(which would require more fuel to make less power)

Turbo ALWAYS beats N/a.
