This forum has to register the appearance of the first practical video screen that renders objects in three dimensions without any glasses.
The Philips WOW vx uses millions of lenses on top of the crystals of an LCD to project the image in several directions, in such a way that a different image is projected to each eye, no matter where you sit in front of the screen (not as in previous versions by, I believe, Sharp, that required you to sit right in front of the middle of the screen).
The diffraction power of the lenses is controlled electronically, so they can be switched between 3D and 2D images:
The screen uses a chip that can capture the depth information from games, so it can use them as "content" straight away from the box. There is a software to transform normal movies into 3D movies (that it is not very good, I read), but I guess they will start to make "native" 3D movies soon.
I imagine this kind of display is what the aerodynamicists are going to ask for Christmas! Please, buy a lot, so the price start to go down and we can use it soon.
