Valkyrie/RB17 wheels fenders

Fenders at Valkyrie/RB17 are like 4 "humps" on upper platform, isnt this cause additional pressure and interference drag, wouldnt be better to rise upper platform in wheel level so we have smooth curve(like on mclaren speedtail) , without fenders sticking out?

What is advantages of this "hump" design?

Most likely styling on the upper surfaces to give it that "shrink wrapped" look. AM did a lot (if not all) of the development of the upper styling surfaces.
