Ferrari SF-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Hold your HPs until there is any new hardware, please.

The switch from a front push rod to a front pull rod configuration is massive. It's easily the biggest change between all cars this season. Will it provide performance ? I have absolutely no clue.

Serra confirmed it was done for aero reasons, as expected.

Those look like interesting cooling outlets. I'm sure I am wrong though.

Is it just me or is the overbite significantly longer than last year?

Interesting serrations on the outermost vane and a different vane arrangement/layout:

Image

Sidepods seem less bulkier and with an indentation from the top. So it seems like they're not entirely flat before the waterslides like they used to be before, instead now there's a bit of a "dip" from the outer edge. But overall, I would say it's the same philosophy?

The overbite lip of the inlet is very similar to McLaren, but Ferrari retains their inlet design.
Engine cover seems tighter, but can't be sure without comparison pics at this moment.

A side by side (SF24 pic from motorsport)

It is indeed for aero reasons as James Key explained it a couple of years ago. Especially for this generation of cars, it should offer quite a lot of benefits in that department that are hard to pass on.

But then again, under James Key Sauber switched from push rod front to pull rod front (2023 -> 2024), yet they actually got worse relative to the competition ...

It's about the whole package really. This is not some silver bullet.

Is anyone able to really briefly summarise what the benefits of the pull vs push front is? As is what the actual aero benefits are

With the usual influx of new people to this forum in February, the usual reminders start:

Livery talk (and stopwatch talk) belong in the team thread. Only hardware and its interpretation in the car threads. Thanks.
