The Caldwell D7 CANAM car used a type of "solid axle" front and rear. A beam axle which was a "birdcage" spaceframe of very small diameter steel tubing. Does this concept have any validity as a possible suspension system in F1? An article at:

Describes this car and suspension system. It will also be interesting to anyone that is looking for information on CANAM history . During the 1960's an incredible amount of innovation was explored-- resulting in the current features of many cars in many classifications -- this suspension system was mean't to take advantage of ultrawide slicks and wide track. Modern F1 design seeks absolute stability of chassis attitude. Could this forgotten "backwater" design have future possibilities?
