Post

My prediction for the 2007 F1 season.

ING Renault - V-keel
Vodafone Mclaren - zero-keel(unsure)
Scuderia Ferrari - single-keel(unsure)
Honda - single-keel
BMW Sauber - zero-keel
Panasonic Toyota - zero-keel(unsure)
Red Bull - V-keel(unsure)
Spyker* - singlee-keel(unsure)
Super Aguri - single-keel(or they want to stick with the twin keel?)
Toro Rosso* - V-keel(possible)
AT&T Williams* - single-keel

*2006 suspension type unknown

I have started to consider F1 rule changes over the next 5 years. Wider track? Wider tires? Active suspension? Less dependence on aero wings? More aero dependence on undertray configuations? Current very stiff suspension. Tire flexure as suspension component. I am starting to muse that composite spaceframe beams - DeDion - front and rear - may present a balance considering all these variable - even considering the increase in unsprung weight.

I think Super Aguri will go with zero keel as a carry over from last years Honda.

Will Newey at RB design a single keel or stick with what he's been doing for the past few years at Mclaren and go zero? my bet zero keel.

Ferrari will surely stick to the single keel design as they have practically made this their "traditional" design over the past years, and they have had a great amount of success with it as well, i would doubt they will change this successful setup

By the way, what will Ferrari's 2007 F1 car be named ? we're all pretty much sure it will 248F1+ ?, just add something to the end of the name,or maybe it wont even be changed at all, who knows,
but do any of you have any "official" information regarding the name ?
i would appreciate any information

The car's name has not been mentioned by Ferrari. So we still don't know what will it be.

Well the F248 was named after the engine configuration. ie 2.4 litres and 8 cylinders. They have done this in the past with other cars.

I doubt any team wil change their Keel layout aside from RedBull (and hence STR). Newey was impressed by the RBR design, but has had longer than most teams to focus on what he wants. I'd predict a neat zero keel and something clever with the exhausts at the back. Ferrari are the only other team I'd suspect of changing.

Here's a more accurate list of current and expected keels

Team - 2007 (2006)

ING Renault - V-keel (V Keel)
Vodafone Mclaren - zero-keel(zero-keel)
Scuderia Ferrari - single-keel (single-keel)
Honda - zero-keel (zero-keel)
BMW Sauber - zero-keel (zero-keel)
Panasonic Toyota - zero-keel(zero-keel)
Red Bull - most likely Zero-keel (V-keel)
Spyker* - zero-keel (zero-keel)
Super Aguri - zero-keel (twin then zero-keel)
Toro Rosso* - same as RBR (V Keel)
AT&T Williams* - zero-keel (zero-keel)

scarbs... is that you on the autosport website with the article on Newey on the main page of the autosport website?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

248 T2 ?

Edit:
About suspension; Would it be silly of me to suspect the teams to move back a single- or V-keel layout in order to be able to optimize front suspension geometry? With harder tires, and presumably a single construction covering all compounds and tracks, wouldn't it be prudent to design the cars with a front suspension that allows for the maximum amount of tweaking?

forgive me if im wrong but doesn't zero keel work very good with hard tires??? like we saw with mclaren in 2005, honda and mclaren who both have zero keel, have been on top of the timesheets in winter testing. and we know that these two teams were not on pace this season with softer tires than 2005, once again forgive me if im wrong

There are far far too many variables to simply suggest that zero keel works better with harder tyres!

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't hard tyres work good on any type if you can get it up to heat in time?

Jason, so many countless topics have discussed this, I'm sure it's not that hard to find another.
