Aluminium parts

Post

Hope I chose the right section for this question!
I was discussing this with a friend and we couldn´t quite agree on which parts of a formula one car are made out of aluminium.

Is there a ressource online where you can look up the components/materials of a forumula one car?

really big one, engine block and cylinder heads. there are probably a ton of other aluminum parts still. For something thats easy to machine and have good strength, its not hard to see why they use it....

Although in F1 they also has a lot of completely exotic stuff...

If there's any heatsinks on the electronics, they'd certainly be aluminium.

Most of the major bits that used to be Aluminium, are now CFRP, MMC or Titanium (Uprights, Rockers, Monocoque inserts)

Bits that are still Alu are: Brake callipers, Damper bodies, Steering rack, May be the part of the steering Column thats not Carbon, Radiators. For some teams there's an Aluminium Gearbox casting. As well as the mandated engine components as previously posted.

Anything that needs high impact strength.. and high heat transfer.. Carbon fibre cannot replace. :)
