Has a Safety car driver ever lost control ?

Post

I have once seen a picture of a safety car that looked as if it had spun infront of a F1 field.

I dont know if it was real or not (or was taken from an angle so it LOOKED as if it had spun, but it was intriguing.
(Unfortunatly I dident save it)
So, has a safety drive ever lost it ? :)

Sure, physicians also die, altough I haven't seen it happening in Formula One and I've followed F1 for some time.

I saw one: at a Spanish Moto GP in 2000 or 2001. The safety car crashed while they were having the lap before the start. I also think it was at Jerez but, again, I'm not totally sure. I googled for five minutes but I couldn't find anything.

For what it's worth, it almost happened in 2007 at, I believe, the Nurburgring. At that race we also almost have a car (Liuzzi's TR) hit the SC.

I have not seen a SC spinning in F1.
Here are a few accidents similar to it:

1. F3 race (DC and Barrichello were racing)

The race started. All the F3 cars dashed into
the first corner. A big smoke came out.
All the spectators around looked at it, thinking
"A big accident!".
It was a safety car blowing the engine up.

2. Hungarian GP in 1995

It is not a safety car, but...

jajajaja I remember that!

It was Taki Inoue in a Footwork!

If I was the driver of that car, I would do the same thing to him, while shouting: for the love of pete how you dare to drive a F1 car that slow?!?!?

I read in one of Sid Watkins' books that, not the safety car but the medical car crashed at Monaco during a race weekend. I think Sid broke some ribs in that! D:

Ah, it could be the medical car - I vaguely remember it was an estate Mercedes.

Either way, it's highly ironic :D

Liuzzi nearly hit the evacuation-tractor which, ironically, was on it's way to salvage the other Toro Rosso car.

I think that would be the medical car however it may be a different incident you're thinking of. I'm pretty sure it was before the Mercedes contract when they were still using Renaults.

F1 GP do Brazil 2002, Nick Heidfeld ripped off the door of the medical car, that was really funny, and there's still a video on youtube. I also THINK I remember a safety car crashing IN THE BACK of Alex Wurz (probably SC driver underestimated F1 braking efficiency) Did I dream of this incident or did it happen indeed? Anyone can help?

Heidfeld and the medical car. Could have been quite serious...

Wurz and the safety car. Slightly more comical...
