A new car for Lady x?

Post

When my Wienese mistress is in need of new means for transportation, I am thinking of buying her a 1992 Porsche 968.

Anyone here with experience of such a vehicle?

Anyway, the car is at 70000 km, leather interior and the asking price is 12 000 EUR.

Seems like a bargain to me, but I was hoping for someone with impressions?

Like any other used car check for abuse/lack of maintenace. The 968 was the last iteration of the 944 from 1983. The engine is half of a 928's V8, and therefore fairly expensive for major repairs if neglected. Porsche had the bugs all worked out by then and the car has a rep for excellent longevity IF properly maintained. Do check the water pump. Most private party Porsche's have service records, ask for them.

Above average for fun, below average for fuel economy.

Here in America, that much cash will get you a nice 928S4. For a 968, it's a little steep unless in very good condition, which 70,000 km would suggest.

If it checks out, buy it and enjoy it.

Thank's a lot Ted, that article was most enlighting. However, you said something about the milage that surprised me, when the 1986 944 Turbo I had in the early 90s was very conservative on the highway?

Should be a good car, getting a new clutch in is a big job I believe owing to prop arrangement, and the AluSil bore's can only be properly honed by a handful of specialist's and will again be a big job owing to engine out and almost all ancillaries off so be very wary of anything starting to use a bit of oil.

You have too many girlfriends, X. Save yourself some money and tell her to take the bus.

Mistress jd, there's a distinction there I believe. Besides, in Wien they take the Strassenbahn.
Also, her uncle brews a mean Obstler.

Well the three that have belonged to friends all averaged high 20 mpg on the highway. Low for a 4 cyl.

Let's see, my 944 Turbo actually managed 100 km from 8 liters, unless I was in a bad hurry.

That's what, 29 mpg?

Don't forget that US Gallons are different to UK Gallons. Make sure you know which you are talking about when you are comparing. It lead me to worry about my UK car when I was talking to US guys about fuel consuption.
