Racing related movies

Post

I find racing movies quite interesting. Last night I bought 4 DVDs from Amazon, listed below:
  • "Le Mans"
  • "Grand Prix (Two-Disc Special Edition)"
  • "On Any Sunday - Re-Mastered-Director's Special Edition 2 Disc Set"
  • "Long Way Down (Deluxe) Race To Dakar - Complete 8 DVD Box Set"
In addition, I wanted to buy "50 Years of F1 on-board", which apparently has only on-board video from the early days till the Schumi years, not much commentary just roaming engines. Perhaps I'll get it at the end of summer.

Well, I wanted to ask if anyone has seen these movies/TV series. If you have what do you think of them? And what should I look at next? I've read the reviews on the items' pages on Amazon but wanted to know from real fans.

I'm looking for the "timeless" factor, which means films that I know I will enjoy 20 yrs from now (I'll have to save a DVD player for that long obviously, lol).

Thanks in advance guys.

I loved it. But I also want to get that on DVD. Awesome indeed.

But let's be real. Although if any of you know of an animated film illustrating technologies used in racing, why not?

The film Cars? No thanks.

Every single person on this forum needs to see From Dust to Glory. VERY good documentary about the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.

Loved it too. Being a Le Mans 2008 documentary about Audi and pro-Audi, it was absolutely breathtaking even for a someone who really wanted them to loose that race.

Just a few suggestions:
1. The French Connection. Not really about racing but often quoted as containing the best car chase in movie history. And a great movie too. Then you'll want to see number 2 just for the plot, so I suggest you get both.
2. C'etait un rendez-vous. Is it real? Is it a Ferrari? Is Gilles Villeneuve on the wheel or Lelouche himself? One thing's for sure. This short is a legend itself.
3. Climb dance. Grand Prix Du Film, Chamonix, 1990. Ari Vatanen. Peugeot 405 T16. Pikes Peak. Anybody in this forum who hasn't seen this should be smacked by Nazi hookers.
4. Any DVD including the name Jean Ragnotti in its title. I don't know if they have any official ones, I just got one that came mounted in a car magazine, and must have watched it at least 50 times before taking it out of the DVD player. You can even throw themed parties with it!!!

For some strange reason all 4 of my suggestions have something French about them. Maybe I should see a doctor!

I have viewed LeMans, Grand Prix, and On any Sunday many, many times. Both Lemans and Grand Prix are big budget Hollywood productions that capture the era when they were filmed. Both great films, both highly recommended.
On Any Sunday is about motorcycles, with the emphasis on dirt bikes. This is a wonderful movie that I have derived a great amount of satisfication and motivation. Trust me, after watching this movie you will want to go out, get a dirt bike, and go riding.

Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

I used to like Thunder days (Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidmann) when I was just a kid, but it sucks now that I think: 90% American "drama", 8% silly jokes, 2% racing.

Driven is just a joke. A big fat joke. I even prefer Talladega nights, at least they admit is a joke after all!

I've seen Taxi and Taxi 2. I don't speak French so I did not understand everything, but it was funny nonetheless.
Redline...HORRIBLE...and the dude that made it lost everything in the sub-prime market meltdown.

I've never even heard of Initial D.
