I'm trying to model the new 2010 airbox opening above the drivers head, however I am confused on the actual surface area the hole is suppose to be. Could someone please put me in the right direction.
What you need to do is find the optimal relation between dynamic-pressure "ram-effect", increasing engine-power,
and aerodynamic drag. A good little engineering xercice that, perhaps this thread can be a start?
i will definitely look into that, looks pretty helpful.
But at the moment all i am doing is making a basic model on solid works. What size is the opening?! I.e is it 1500mm^2 or 3000mm^2 which the air flows into??
There isn't a single number. Just estimate a "reasonable" number based on photos and try to set up your model parametrically so it can be modified easily. The size of the opening can be any size (within regulations.. if there are any?), the key is finding the balance you want between the aerodynamic and engine parameters as xpensive mentioned.
