LMS-8 hours of Le Castellet (Paul Ricard HTTT)

Post

I've finally decided to open a thread for that one, because I believe it will prove to be another classic, after LM24, Sebring12 and PLM10...
The nature of the track, (in this high speed configuration with the full mistral straight), the duration of the race, and the quality of the field, it seems to have the potential to bring "a little more" than an average LMS race.

Note that in LMS the FLM cars are ranked as LMP2s (in ALMS they're on their own class: LMPC), so the LMP2 field is looking great mostly because it's artificially extended.

Obviously a lot of people are looking forward to this race as a first confrontation between the revised R15 "plus" and the private 908 of Oreca. The presence of Stephane Sarrazin at the wheel of the Oreca to assist Panis and Lapierre make them looks quite serious, but Audi bring it's aces for that one, so they are the clear favorites! Don't forget that petrol cars should be much more of a threat this time, so keep a eye on everyone in P1, a surprise could come from lots of teams!

As for myself, well, I'm packing my bag right now... 8) I should be at the track saturday, so I leave you with the "great coverage from eurosport". Sorry for the teasing, but joke appart, I fear you're going to have trouble to catch a stream for that one (If it's like last year coverage you're going to cry...)

Anyway, I'm planning to shoot the race as much as possible with my camera, I promise to share it here when I'm returning, or even during the week end if I have the oportunity to connect myself.

Good week end everyone!

But are both types competitive in regards to one another? Or will there be a noticeable difference between them?
I don't follow this all that much, so pardon my ignorance.

And thanks for your coverage Vyselegend, you're one of our resident endurance racing junkies! :)

well, the gap is still pretty large, it is actually in some way bridging the gap between LMP2 and GT1, so there is a pretty large gap. Those LMPC cars are just driving here for fun and nothing else, as winning is impossible for them.

Well, the FLM should be a second or two slower than the average P2, but Sebring proved it's mostly a matter of professionalism/ amateurism. In Florida the best LMPC finished two laps behind the victorious GT2! And it was with Bouchut at the wheel, so seen like that they don't look great, but the level of experience of the LMPC teams with those cars was in no way comparable to the level of proffessional GT2 teams such as Rizi...

Let's see what they do here on an high speed layout to have a clearer picture...

And yeah, I assume that endurance junkie title!

The gap at Sebring is much bigger than 2 sec though....the P2 pole time is like 7 sec faster than the LMPC pole....even if the LMS P2 car has more restrictive aero package I don't think they'll be much slower...

If Audi R15Plus does not win the race by some margin I think more head scratching will happen at Audi....Doesn't the LMS race at Spa also happen before LM24? It'll also have Factory Peugeot in that one...

I wonder if there are streams for the race online....

Eurosport (1 and 2) has a few snippets of race scheduled (around the start, a few bits in the middle and no finish!). The 'coverage' page at the official LMS website was empty last time I checked. That leaves me wondering if the race is actually being filmed in full at all. If there's no coverage anywhere where would the stream get the video from? #-o

Why bother racing in a race with no TV coverage? :wtf:

TV coverage page now online http://www.lemans-series.com/en/s52_cir ... circuit=19

It seems the only channel to broadcast the whole race live is some Belgian one that I've never heard of (Exqui Sport). Still there's hope someone will put up a stream at ******.tv.

Yay hard numbers...
FP1: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82787
FP2: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82792

Diesels are faster still, Audi is slightly quicker than private Peugeot. Acura/HPD is just a tad slower than Ginetta/Creation/blahblah, FLM fastest car is 7 sec slower than fastest P2, ~3 sec faster than fastest GT2....

Acura is something else......if the team is any good the European P2 teams are in for a season of pain...

Why no RS Spyder teams anymore?
