Hello guys a couple of friends and I have faced the project of building a buggy. The purpose is just for fun. The car won't be subject to any rulebook, nor anything similar. Forgot to mention, though we are not on a very strict budget, we don't want to spend any unnecessary money.
EDIT: Additional info: It's going to be two seater, side by side. Rear engine. RWD. Brake disc in all wheels. Relatively small. Round tubing chassis, dimensions still to be specified. Welded diff (probably). No bodywork. Must withstand rollovers, jumps, and brute drivers. So a tough suspension. We do not care that much about weight, but will not add any unnecessary one.
We began buying a fiat 128, which was in really bad shape.
That's how a fiat 128 looks like. It has a 1.3 liter engine and 5 gears. The car is fwd.
From the car we got, we stayed only with the front part. That means engine, gearbox(transaxle), driveshafts, front suspension(McPherson), etc. The rest was discarded.
We have already started reconditioning the engine. Though it will not be rectified, several parts will be changed, engine cleaned+painted etc. The gearbox will probably have some of its synchros changed.
After we finish assembling the engine(which will occur in the next few weeks, in holidays) we have to start building the suspension and frame. The front suspension will consist of double a arms, with a fiat600 upright. Here's a picture of the upright:
Rear suspension will be the fiat's front one, put in the back. So it will have rear McPherson.
All suspension arms will be custom made. The buggy frame will also be custom made. But before we start with the frame "design" we need to set up our suspensions. Though I have a suspension software I still have to set up which are my suspension goals.
From what I have seen in other Buggys I want lots of movement, so that would imply large control arms. I have also seen that in static position the suspension arms look like they're in a big droop, which I don't seem to understand why.
So here I am to ask you guidance upon the requirements that my suspension should fulfill. The track width will be ~1300mm, 13 inch wheels.
Any input is welcome, suspensionwise, or chasiswise.
Bye bye!
