Should F1Technical forum members use names of F1 Drivers as their username?

Yes, if they want to. It doesn't matter.

No, it's misleading to use someone else's name.

The use of real drivers names as F1Technical usernames

Post

I for one find it confusing when reading the forum when I see users whose names are actual F1 drivers (past or present).

Not only is it confusing when reading that user's posts, but it's worse when another user quotes such a post as it appears that they're quoting the actual driver.

Of course, if the person in question actually goes by that name then that's different.

I also do not like it, but who am I to try an stop people being sad enough to use a driver's name instead of their own identity?

It does confuse and confuddle people..but hey..CMSMJ1 means bugger all but that is who I am on the world wide web on all fora.

Anyway, what makes you think that result of Deep Thought's musings can be used as a user name..how very dare you!!

Whadaf***ingliberty! hehe

You really must be a hoopy frood to know where I was coming from with my username!

Yeah, I know it's petty and somewhat pointless to question such usernames. I don't mind people using "not their own name" as their username, that's fair enough in my book, but it just seems like bad form when you see a post quoting such a user that says something like:
Nigel Mansell wrote:Me lika a cha-cha
When the real person didn't say anything of the sort.

I guess it's akin to how annoyed I get when I hear presenters on the Television say "haitch" when they mean "aitch" or "Skedule" when they mean "Shedule" (for the avoidance of doubt, the mis-spelling is deliberate to illustrate what's said).

Perhaps I shouldn't moan about such things... life is too short. But I wanted to know what the other esteemed members on here thought.

It is confusing. My view is my name is Andrew so I'll use that as a user name. It's random codes and words that I find daft as user names, but hey it's not my place to tell folk what to do.

I find the use of pet names for drivers rather than their actual names more annoying.

Shedule? Where'd you go to shool?

Yuk, yuk.

I think that if you think that Nigel Mansel is posting here under his own name, then your confusion extends beyond usernames.

As I said, the spelling mistake was deliberate. To illustrate the fact that the correct pronunciation of the word Schedule (in Great Britain at least) is with a silent "C", hence the spelling omitting the C.

Back on topic (yes I know it was me who deviated!) I don't for one second think that Nigel Mansell is actually posting on here, but I have seen people regularly "quote" real people in this way, i.e. not quoting from a post on the forum, but inserting text into a quote which they composed themselves.

I just wanted to know if I am the only moaning old sod on here really!

Ah, thank you. I think I see the problem now.

I agree that the use of pet names is irritating, except sometimes if the pet name in question is being used for the purpose of ridicule or jollity.

All the "Regenmeister", "BOSS" and "FRED" comments frankly get right up my snitch, but "Bulk" to describle Massa does make me smile, purely because of the origin of that particular name.

I think it is stupid.

People have names in order to be referred to them by such. And the nicknames people give them are just silly.

The only way to close a stupid question is to give a smart answer
